Comments Thread For: Lampley Critical of Pay-Per-View Model on New The Fight Game'

Jim Lampley didn't bite his tongue regarding boxing's broken pay-per-view model, the same television vehicle the company that employs him helps support. The veteran HBO blow-by-blow announcer was critical of pay-per-view boxing during the newest episode of "The Fight Game with Jim Lampley." It debuted Wednesday night on HBO.

Well, HBO is somewhat at fault here for this. I know I go around here blaming Haymon for unnecessarily overpaying his fighters which then set a standard for a lot of fighters in the game. But if you go back, HBO was catering to Haymon for a while as he overpaid his fighters.

Now fighters want huge amount of money which HBO can't afford or refuse to pay and fighters have to go to PPV cause of it.

        Just my opinion anyway.

somewhat? What a joke you are..... Hbo is solely reponsible for the rip off mismatches on ppv the last few years..... Ggg vs lemeiux, canelo vs angulo, canelo vs khan, canelo vs smith, manny vs algieri, manny vs rios, manny vs bradley 2 and 3 and manny vs vargas....... Those are all hbo sponsored ppv mismatch rip off......

So how the hell is hbo only somewhat responsible??????? They are fully and singularly responsible...

PPV is possible if the right fights are made. And are marketed properly. With PPV it takes 2 stars fighting each other. Not just one fighting a sub par opposition

The reason that fights generally not fit for PPV are headed to PPV is because they have no choice due to the budget constraints. HBO's boxing budget continues to decrease and there seems to be no hope for the future. So in order to get fights made they have to head to PPV.
