At least have the decency to put on a good undercard.....that would entice someone who's undecided.

Boxings in a bad place right now. Fights rarely get put together, when they do they're mismatches, and when they do actually get it right and make a good fight like Ward/Kov or Jacobs/GGG I gotta pay even more on top of my HBO and SHO subscriptions. It's just making it easy for casuals to tune out from the sport all together.

HBO's downfall began when Mayweather left and they told Haymon to get lost. Then Greenburg resigned or got fired. Then what used to be undercard fights with one elite fighter against an opponent became the main event and fights like GGG-Lemieux and Canelo-Smith and Cotto-Kirkland all became PPVs. HBO has quit investing the necessary amounts to stage two elite fighters against each other on their regular channel. Not saying Haymon isn't a crook who stages even bigger mismatches, but at least he found some rich idiots to pay for it so we didn't have to spend $65 to see Thurman-Porter.

Lampley is part of the problem, hyping up all these fights and ridiculing any Haymon fighter and blatantly biased announcing. While Showtime is staging some good fights i.e. Charlo-Williams, Degale-Jack, these are fights we were led to believe would be on network tv when PBC started. They are all in it to make as much money as they can. And the way to do that is make every fight PPV. It has killed boxing and continues to prevent boxing from making a comeback.

PPV is the only solution to satisfy greedy fighters these days. Otherwise fights won't happen. Ward/Kovalev, Crawford/Postol, etc. Sad part is they're never worth the price fans pay. All these greedy fighters do is clinch, hug, run, give up...cash in...

Lampley is critical of the PPV model yet doesn't support the free tv model of PBC.

What model does he advocate then?

The small budget is a tired excuse. Nelson needs to do a better job of allocating the budget.
It is when you pay one guy $1.3M and the other $675K... On a reported $25M budget. If that wasn't on PPV, their salaries would be like 500K and 100K for Postol.

The budget cuts play a huge role.
