I let the resume come into play as the career progresses.

There are plenty guys out there I think very highly of who don't have impressive wins, for many reasons. I'm not going to ignore the strong instinct I have to recognize talent and boxing IQ when I see it just because they haven't done it against an elite contender.

Just like how someone is innocent until proven guilty, I give you the benefit of the doubt until I see your skillset and abilities fail you or come up short. I am not just going to assume you can't win at that level until I see it.

I reserve that kind of skepticism for fighters with major flaws and red flags.
A fighter can look like a million bucks coming up the rankings but come up short once they hit a certain level due to any number of things that were not apparent beforehand. It's simply impossible to tell how good someone is until they've had a few litmus tests. Even then it's a guessing game most of the time.

Of course a strong resume isn't the be all and end all of a fighter, but it's a good way of eliminating many of the variables surrounding them which would otherwise remain question marks. A nondescript resume doesn't mean the fighter should be written off, but it doesn't mean he should be praised either. It simply means they're untested and therefore it's anyone's guess how good they are.

I get your reasoning and empathise with it to a degree but I like to see fighters start from scratch and prove their worth through impressive performances and wins against upper calibre opposition. I've seen too many hypejobs fall by the wayside to put my faith in anything other than hard tangible results.

I'll take note of your high opinion of Miller though and watch him with a bit more of a critical eye in future.
