  • Comments Thread For: BoxingScene Fighter of The Year 2016 - Carl Frampton

By Cliff Rold - It's hard not to like the story. Barry McGuigan was one of those fighters who became a folk tale. He was the man who could bring, when he was in the ring, a unifying feeling to the boiling undercurrents of Northern Ireland. Despite a relatively short prime, McGuigan's impact on boxing was so strongly felt it was enough to enshrine the former featherweight champion in the International Boxing Hall of Fame...

Carl Frampton without a doubt deserves this award.

So these are mostly good picks, but I'm not so sure Sergey really deserves to be in there. Bit of a sympathy vote and it's a shame Cliff has caved in to it. His year was pretty good W2 L1 but he lost his big fight and whether you think he won or not, he didn't look that good for long stretches vs Ward and Chilemba.

No. Kovalev is fighter of the year.

Congrats to Carl. I was leaning toward Loma, but won't argue with Frampton getting it. Great year for him. Wish he wouldn't have run from Rigo.

Kinda silly to have Kov in the mix. Honorable mention maybe, but he's not a contender for the FOTY, not in 2016 at least.

Frampton is a good pick with Kovalev a close second.

              Bring on 17!

Frampton 100% deserves it. It's a joke and a half that Crawford was pushing for Fight of The Year and Top Rank was trying to get media on board with that.

Crawford had a better year than Lomachenko who many people thought deserved to be FOTY, he beat Postol he was the #2 in the division even #1 by some people
