It's not like Garcia is a big star outside boxing. Thurman needs to get Floyd or Pac in the ring to get his name out there.

He needs to be properly guided by a promoter and be in the media's eye.

I've said for some time now that he has a lot of good qualities. Frankly I don't think Haymon has pushed him enough. I think he's on a good path now though - there's still more to be desired, but this Garica fight is a great step forward. Keith is personable, entertaining style, and it doesn't hurt that he's a good English-speaking American fighting in America...I think it comes down to promotional push. Fighter's wouldn't have promoters and managers, if they didn't need them, Keith Thurman's full potential can't be achieved without better push.

I don't see him becoming the next take it to the bank 1 million PPV WW, but if he impresses against Garcia, I think it can't hurt.

That's my Magic Johnson tweet post for the day.

I don't think he is good enough to become a real superstar. He is a damn good fighter and exciting to watch. He just isn't that much better than the competition. He didn't beat Porter by that much. He ended up beating Chavez by KO but he struggled along the way. He will probably beat Garcia but Garcia isn't that good either. If he was destine to be a superstar he would already be one by now. If he improve a lot all of a sudden and starts beating everybody by impressive KOs he might become a superstar. How likely is he to improve so much this late in his career? I think Spence is the future welterweight superstar and he doesn't have close fights. He wins by quick KOs.

No, he doesn't have the personality for it. Seems more like a new age, weed dispensary guy than a superstar boxer. Garcia and Maybe Spence have better personalities for it.

On HBO with a promoter like Loeffler? Yes, for sure. Unfortunately, he is with Al Haymon and this thirsty punk knows nothing about building stars.

I think you still need names & to be more active to reach "superstar" status. And Thurman has for sure not been active enough to stay in fans minds.

At least if you are going to be not so active you need to stay in the media & when Thurman doesn't have a fight coming up he's not really out there, that I see, all that much so his relevance drops significantly til he starts doing pressers for his next bout.

So he needs to fight Manny or hope Spence reaches some decent level of popularity himself & they have some epic fight or three or something like that. In short I think its an uphill battle & possible, but unlikely for Thurman to reach a high level of fame with how the landscape looks, the current strategy & options available to get him there.
