You need to become a little more aware, mate

There have been 3 highly publicised purse bid requests for mandatory defences in the last year alone.

Gym/Haymon requested an immediate bid when Kovalev was installed as mando for Stevenson, instead of negotiating with Duva, which was granted.

Duva played the same trick herself by refusing to negotiate with Team Fury and demanding an immediate purse bid for Fury/Glazkov. That request was also granted, which meant that Fury had to relinquish his IBF belt because he was contracted to rematch Wlad next.

Tom Loeffler reqested and immediate bid for GGG/Jacobs, but that request was turned down by the WBA.

"Kovalev went on to win by 8th round knockout, and was prepared to make a mandatory defense of his own—a title shot owed to IBF #1 contender Nadjib Mohammedi. The move was made due to the belief that he would then move towards a title fight with Stevenson some time in the fall."

"Instead, Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel (GYM Promotions) called for an expedited purse bid in lieu of a negotiation period"

On Duva's request the WBC made the first Kovalev/Pascal fight a Mando fight for Stevenson, thus giving Kovalev the #1 in WBC LHW rankings and ordering negotiations for the fight ...

After the early negotiations obviously going nowhere, the WBC called for a purse bid to make the fight happen and to get the best deal possible for for parties... ...

HBO bailed out because they knew that Haymon/Showtime would outbid them easily and that was the end of it all...

All the smart talk from Duva since then have been dust in the wind to try to make them looked good and nothing else...

      Simple...

You are being polite with me, so I'll be polite with you.

Can you please tell me who you think it was that vacated his WBC title during the Kovalev/Stevenson fiasco?

        Thanks.

The Montreal superfight between Pascal & Bute was sanctioned by the WBC for the Diamond Championship, a special "one night only" title you can request for superfights that do not have world titles at stake. Pascal won and became the WBC diamond champion.

Team Kovalev made a few unusual requests. They requested that Kovalev be allowed to unify with Pascal even though the diamond title typically isn't allowed to be defended. They requested that Kovalev be named Stevenson's mandatory if he won the WBC diamond title. They requested a purse bid with a 50/50 split, which is highly unusual for a mandatory defense.

The WBC granted all of Kovalev's requests.

Kovalev won the WBC diamond championship and was guaranteed a shot at Stevenson with a 50/50 purse split. In addition, the fight with Pascal was the last of Kovalev's HBO contract. So not only was Kovalev the WBC diamond champion. Not only did he have a guaranteed fight with Stevenson with a 50/50 split, but he was a television free agent and able to fight anywhere he wanted.

Even though Stevenson could have objected to another organization's champion being named as his mandatory, even though Stevenson could have objected to only receiving 50% of the money for a mandatory defense when he should have been entitled to more as champion, Stevenson agreed to everything.

So Kovalev made all these crazy requests and the WBC & Stevenson said yes to everything. And Kovalev was a free agent and able to fight on any network.

Kovalev then vacates his WBC title, refuses to fight Stevenson, and resigns with HBO.

But since most people on this site are brainwashed by HBO propaganda, somehow they blame Stevenson for the fight not happening.

The WBC diamond belt is not an interim title - that's the "silver" title you must be thinking of. The diamond belt is an honourary award given to the winner of a fight between 2 high profile boxers. It doesn't entitle the holder to a mandated shot at the actual WBC title. It can be defended if the holder wishes, but there is no requirement to defend it.

"the fight with Pascal was the last of Kovalev's HBO contract. So not only was Kovalev the WBC diamond champion. Not only did he have a guaranteed fight with Stevenson with a 50/50 split, but he was a television free agent and able to fight anywhere he wanted."

The terms and timing of Kovalev's new deal with HBO were never made public and you have no idea what they were. The above is pure speculation on your part.

"Even though Stevenson could have objected to another organization's champion being named as his mandatory, even though Stevenson could have objected to only receiving 50% of the money for a mandatory defense when he should have been entitled to more as champion, Stevenson agreed to everything."

Stevenson had no choice about any of those stipulations. His agreement was not required in order for the WBC to mandate them.

Let's get real about this. Duva has made 3 attempts to match Kovalev and Stevenson, and it was a maneuver by Stevenson that scuppered every one of them.

“The WBC gave both camps free negotiations period and put May 29 as the date for the purse bid if necessary,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com. “If Main Events does not accept, the process will go (back) to purse bid.”

The proposal was made by Main Events’ Kathy Duva during the WBC annual convention last December, at a time when Kovalev was in the process of securing a showdown with leading contender and former light heavyweight king Jean Pascal. The agreement was made that the winner of their March 14 bout in Montreal would be named the mandatory challenger for Stevenson, who had a voluntary fight scheduled with Sakio Bika on April 4 in Quebec City.
GYM never called for the purse bid... They only wanted it as soon as possible once the WBC put a deadline to negotiations...

You're quoting from the same article I linked to, but leaving out the part which proves that what you are saying is wrong. Here it is again:

"Instead, Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel (GYM Promotions) called for an expedited purse bid in lieu of a negotiation period, a request that came before Stevenson’s eventual 12-round win over Bika. Michel was of the belief that the two sides wouldn’t be able to come eye to eye, instead asking the WBC to fast forward to the hearing, which was ordered for April 17."

Michel asked for an "expedited" (immediate) purse bid, "in lieu of" (instead of) a negotiating period, and the WBC granted his request.

Please make sure to have your fact straights before you start questioning my credibility. I already very clearly explained to you what happened. No, I was not thinking of a silver title. Like I explained, Kovalev made several very unusual requests, one of which was that Pascal be allowed to "defend" the *DIAMOND* championship and that if Kovalev won it, that Kovalev would become Stevenson's mandatory with a 50/50 split.

So far as I know, Kovalev was not required to hand back or relinquish the WBC diamond belt after he was pulled out of the purse bid with Stevenson.

You say he relinquished it, so could you please post a link to your source for that info? I'd be interested to see it.

Kovalev's previous contract with HBO may have expired with his fight vs Pascal, but both he and Duva stated that he was under contract at the time we are talking about here. I'm sure they know a lot more about that than you do.
