I'm surprised wilder is taking on someone as tough as Andrzej Wawrzyk. WBC's #12, Polands #2, the worlds 29th best fighter. Deontay is a special kind of man. I was expecting him to take at least 2 more tune ups before he boxed at Wawrzyk's level. They really do make em tough these days in the good ol USA.

Which heavyweight champ is fighting anyone of note other than Joshua Klitschko?

Lol, there is only one other champ apart from the guys you named, doesn't seem reasonable to compare Wilder (champ 2 years) to Parker (champ for 2 weeks) but even there Wilder looks worse, Parker just fought someone who is better than Wilder's next opponent and better than Wilder's last opponent, so yeah, all the other belt holders are taking bigger challenges than Wilder.

its not wilders fault povetkin ruined his big fight and the guy just broke his hand in 4 spots and had surgery on a torn bicep this is not a tuneup fight this is more a rehab fight. its one thing to bash fighters for who they fight its another entirely to be hateful and ignore the reality of wilders situation i mean seriously do u honestly not get that this is nothing more then a rehab fight so he can make sure all is well before taking a real challenge?

He really isn't focused on these guys, he's just saying so he doesn't look as bad. He'll continue to fight Euro level fighters as long as he can. If he fights another heavyweight champion, he knows it's cash out time.

Bottom line....no one is fighting anyone challenging unless it brings big money at heavyweight. I guess in your mind it's Wilder's fault that the WBC postponed the Povetkin fight.

It's not just a rehab fight though. Wilder has made it an official defence of his title, which makes it pretty pathetic.

Look at this thread from August: http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=719771 Wilder has had his surgery and is going to be coming back against a big name "the biggest fight possible", "not looking for a warm-up bout". Wilder fans believed it, were of course proven wrong and learn nothing because a few months later and it's the exact same routine and people still buy it.
Exactly. That isn't even the first time either. Wilder's been consistently promising to fight bigger names for years now. At this stage any goodwill he might have built up from the Stiverne fight must be considered long gone.

Fans need to stop giving him passes. Arreola and now Wawrzyk are completely unacceptable defences for a supposed HW world champion, no matter the circumstances.
