    Comments Thread For: WBO Served Itself, Not Boxing, By Making Canelo Mandatory

    By Keith Idec - Laughable. That's about the best way to describe the WBO's deceptive explanation for why it installed Canelo Alvarez as its mandatory middleweight championship challenger over Avtandil Khurtsidze. As if it isn't absurd enough that the Puerto Rico-based sanctioning organization makes distinctions between its No. 1 contenders and mandatory challengers, now members of the WBO's championship committee are trying to tell us that skipping Khurtsidze in favor of Alvarez is about something other than collecting more money for the WBO...

    To be fair how is this any different than the wbc having con ranked #1 at 147 when he barely moved up from 140. Lol they still have him as a mandatory despite not doing anything significant at the weight

      Khan fought Collazo for the WBC silver, then beat Alexander, was made the mandatory to Mayweather - the mandatory was NEVER ordered, and then somehow Garcia and Guerrero get to fight for the vacant WBC title. The winner was due to face Khan and even that is taking forever to drag out.

            The WBO makes all there champs mandatory when they move up in weight, for example if Pacquaio moved up he would be fighting for the Vacant WBO title, if BJS moved up he'll get a shot at Ramirez, if Ramirez moved up he'd get a shot at Ward etc,etc

              Nothing to read here. The writers name should be Keith Idkc (I don't know crap), because he doesn't know s**t about boxing.

              Nothing but whining about why his sissy idol Little G doesn't get his way. Ca$hnelo is getting that money fight Little G wanted in Chavez Jr. and Keith Idkc is crying about it, .

              Boxing articles these days aren't even worth reading. All they are is bias fan girls like Keith Idkc spewing propaganda for their idols.

              Little G: "Anybody from 154-168". No mention of that in the article. But the sissy boy Keith is sure to mention Ca$hnelo not being true to his word when he said he'd move up to 160 gradually.

              I won't waste my time reading another piece of s**t article by this fruitcake Keith Idkc.

              Here's for you and Little G, Keith, .

                I hope Canelo does bypass Saunders to fight Chavez Jr. in May, but I don't see Canelo fighting GGG in September without having that WBO strap first! Maybe he fights Saunders in February, maybe the Saturday night before the Super Bowl?

                  Boxing organizations do this all the time. I doubt anyone with a functioning brain needed this ruling to realize that sanctioning bodies are actually ranking fighters based on their popularity and the power of their promoter.

                  The WBO has done this on various occasions in recent years and will continue to do so. You can agree or disagree but you have to be consistent. If memory serves me right, Terence Crawford was immediately ranked number 1 or 2 when he moved up from 135 to 140 and ended up fighting for the vacant belt. Mikey Garcia was Martinez's mandatory challenger right after leaving 126. Canelo currently holds the WBO light middleweight title, he has announced his intention of moving up in weight and therefore becomes mandatory challenger for Saunders.

                  So why the backlash now? Well, just because it's Canelo. How many hard-working fighters have been passed over in recent years due to the same WBO policy? And how many articles by Mr. Idec on this subject? Laughable indeed.

                    Avtandil Khurtsidze..who?

                    Canelo = $$$

                    nobody gives a damn about Khurtsidze vs Saunders, but if Canelo gets that WBO strap then that makes the Golovkin clash that much sweeter..winner is undisputed. so this decision is in the best interest of boxing fans.

                    good job WBO. I'm sure Khurtsidze understands.
