I loved seeing Floyd and Marquez throw uppercuts as well as see guys like Miguel fall victim to it. I thought Zab threw an AMAZING counter uppercut. Like wow. I think people prefer punches that are easier to time people with and i don't think everybody has the patience for the uppercut.
Are Uppercuts used often enough these days?

I don't think it as risky as others if thrown correctly and from the correct distance. The problem IMO is there are very few good inside fighters and even fewer good teachers in boxing these days and the uppercut isn't really supposed to be a knockout punch its a set up punch.
IMO its why a lot of fighters who spend a prolonged period in the British amateur system don't fare well in the pro's. Its years of bad habits and one of my main gripes in that flawed system is that horrible uppercut a lot of British fighters tend to throw from the outside.
They throw it from way too far out and that is why they're easily countered.
Its not always they have a bad chin its more when you throw it from that far out you leave yourself as exposed as humanly possible & your momentum is adding to the counter.
You're turning into the shot & not only that because its thrown from so far out it becomes practically an arm punch.
I think Juan Manuel Marquez may have the best uppercut ever with the greatest of understanding of using it correctly (distance, taking a shortstep back to create room for it & putting shots behind it).
Canelo also has a very good uppercut and who could forget Tyson Fury
Finito Lopez, Michael Carbajal, Mike Tyson (exceptional for a shorter man), Evander Holyfield are all up there.Comment
