Ward just fought for $5M in an event that lost a ton of money and is talking about retirement.

Chocolatito fought for $400K while headlining an HBO telecast and is not talking about retirement.

The two have absolutely nothing in common.
    Exactly. Another ****** thread.

Gonzalez is just asking to get paid fairly in comparison to other fighters on hbo that do similar ratings.

Ward wants his promoter that is losing millions to lose millions more. Plus, he signed the rematch clause. At some point, he is going to have to realize that his signature and his word mean something. He is very unprofessional in that way.

What makes you think that Kovalev-Ward lost a ton of money? The live gate did $3.3m in Las Vegas, and the initial PPV number came in with revenues over $10.5m. You add that Sky Sports bought the UK TV rights, the fight was carried in Mexico on Televisa and for the rest of Latin America on Canal Indigo, the fight was aired on mainstream TV in Russia, and that the fight was on PPV in Canada, you're looking at the event likely doing over $20m in total revenues.

Main Events didn't make a ton of money, but to argue that the event lost money is a bit presumptuous.

Andre Ward won the fight, and he's simply demanding that that be acknowledged in any talks about a rematch; the longer Duva and Kovalev continue to disrespect the man, the worse these negotiations will be for them.

You call them Cowards I call them "SMART" I think Ward HBO Contract is UP and that was his last fight with HBO if I'm not mistaken yes he should negotiate to get a extenetion with HBO OR if Showtime comes with big money them jump over and fight Stevenson. Despite the bashing over a Decision he is not responsible for he is in a GREAT POSITION!

Same with Gonzalez, he took advantage of the opportunity that HBO gave him and became a fan favorite in the ring in short period of time and he can Draw on his own which is very impressive for his Division so yeah it is time to get paid.

None of us would turn down a promotion at our 9 to 5 Jobs "For The Sake of The Company" so don't tell boxers what they are or aren't worth we don't have that right to do so! We can give our Opinion absolutely but Opinions are just that...OPINIONS so fans think their Opinions are Facts and 99.9% of the time especially on this forum, they're NOT!

first of all, how in the heck has this lie been accepted as fact?

Main Events was the lead promoter for the event; the HBO deal went through Main Events, the MGM Resorts deal went through Main Events, the UK TV deal with Sky Sports went through Main Events, the Russian TV deal went through Main Events, the event sponsorship deals went through Main Events, etc.

In what world is Roc Nation going to commit to paying their fighter an amount that was literally more than double what Ward was ever paid on a fight without having any say in the actual running of the event and the event revenues?

For Main Events to have such control of the event, where Roc Nation seems to have hardly any say in any of the revenues/ points in the event, it is beyond obvious that Main Events cut Roc Nation a massive check on the front end to "show up and sit, while they put on the event they want to put on".

Ward/Roc Nation got their check on the front end, Kovalev/Duva got their own money from the revenues on the event, and Ward/Roc Nation would've seen another check only if the event turned out to be a blockbuster.

LOL at calling these two fighters cowards when they fought the best opposition available.

The problem here that most would love the whole negotiation process be public so they can dissect it with their agenda.

An example like Arum, with every big fight that don't go his way he starts talking nonsense in public. Without him the Pac/Floyd fight got done easier.

So wait...someone makes a valid point and you call them a troll and say they shouldn't post in your thread? Is this thread only for people who agree with you then? He's right, the situations are different...you should start by refuting his point.
