Carl Frampton beat the number 1 of the new division he went up to in his first fight in that new division
He also fought and beat a top 3 domestic rival in a huge PPV clash

It's pretty obvious who wins it BUT I think because LSC being a bietch it hurt Carl a tiny bit because I'm sure carl would have had a third fight against another domestic rival but Cruz held his plans back.

I don't rate a 51yo that highly he looked old and he fought old very ineffective and negative in his approach.

I can definitely understand the votes for Frampton. Quigg and Cruz are strong wins.

I think I like Joe Smith for the award because it's not typical that a fighter with no known amateur background and who was on no one's radar breaks out into significance in back to back upsets via stoppage.

But comparing the quality of Hopkins and Fonfara head to head with Quigg and Cruz, I'd say Frampton fought the better competition. The wins were also not brutal stoppages but nevertheless both clear victories in my book.

Let's go with a big fat no. Fonfara is average at best and Hopkins is 52 coming off a 2-year layoff and a 12-0 ass kicking.

Breakthrough Fighter of the Year would be a more appropriate award.

With little name value still there is lil chance he'll win FOTY by anyone notable, but I think he for sure should be in the running & get some votes. Sleeper for FOTY for sure.

Why not? In a year where some great fight were not made because of money of fear of losing or for any number of reasons, Smith stepped up twice and ended up with a once in a lifetime KO win over an ATG boxer.

Definitely has a case that is strengthened by the way he won those fights. Blitzed Fonfara in 1. Knocked Hopkins out of the ring. Both were highly rated.

I think he's more likely to win either Upset of the Year or KO of the Year. Maybe both. They'll give Fighter of the Year to an established name like Frampton, Lomachenko, Crawford, or Ward.
