His expenses are paid; he may be paid a little; it's still a bummer and a bad situation. The catch is, he'll make more money for a mandatory shot against Wilder, probably, than he would against Povetkin. That's the main reason he pulled out, and that's the business of it. Smart in a way, but the old timers would have been, "we're here to fight, you got our money Mr. Promoter, here I am, let's fight."
That's not the way it works these days though.
Thanx. Hopefully Stiverne does in fact get some money. Can't live on credit cards all the time.

Actually, no, in a purse bid fight like this one that's not the case. Stiverne likely got nothing up front, maybe his hotel rooms in Russia were pre-paid.

This is in large part what the Wilder-Ryabinski/Povetkin lawsuit is over. Wilder is out six figures for his training and travel and lodging expenses for his training camp for Povetkin.

And I'd say any chance of Wilder losing that lawsuit just went down the drain with the Russian boxing/doping establishment.

I was just speculating before really, but yeah I guess I stand corrected, as demonstrated by the lawsuit. Probably, anyway.

I guess I was confused cause I refused to believe someone would be dumb enough to pop a second time...
I thought the same but he was definitely dumb enough to pop twice. Going forward if he's still allowed to fight no one is going to go to Russia and fight him.

It would be ****** to fight Povetkin or anyone else for that matter in Russia. It would also be ****** to fight any Eastern Euro anywhere in the world without testing.
