Ward got the short end of the stick because he brought the majority of the fans (i.e. in the arena and PPV's), yet he didn't get the lion's share. The only reason Kovalev got the lion's share was not because of his fan base, but because he was the champion.

Well, guess what? Kovalev isn't the champion anymore.

How do you know Kov got the lions share in the first fight? Do you have insight of the total purse payout and split from HBO?

What's to say that it wasn't a 50/50 split and Since Ward wasn't happy with his purse amount RNS had to supply the rest?

        Actually, I do

        http://www.totalsportek.com/boxing/s...plit-revealed/

"Both fighters will be getting their career best purse for November bout with purse split is revealed as 60/40 in Kovalev favor".

Sergey Kovalev $7 million guaranteed plus undisclosed payment from HBO on per fight contract.

Andre Ward $5 million guaranteed (plus PPV share & sponsorships)

Because the split wasn't 50/50, it was 60/40 for Kovalev.

Now that Kovalev is no longer the champ, things will be different.

Not necessarily. You know how things work in this business. You're paid based upon how much $$$ you can generate. If HBO feels that Ward isn't worth what he's requesting, then RNS will once again have to step in and add on to Ward's purse.

If what Duva said is true and the contracts for the first fight and rematch were agreed upon and signed by both parties including the purse splits, then Ward may not have a leg to stand on as far as what HBO has committed to pay both fighters unless they're willing to revise that to satisfy Ward, but thats between HBO and Ward.

To be honest, I dont think Ward has enough bargaining power to try and muscle HBO into paying him more. Seems as if he's on the verge of retirement anyway and its not like he's bringing in the ratings.

          • Just the usual diva attitude from Ward. Walk away, no one will miss you. You got a gift last time out, next time you might not be so lucky.

            • Gets the gift of a lifetime in the first match..... dropped, landed less punches and he was taking on the resident champ, but wind on all cards with American judges and American ref.

Even though he signed a contract, he somehow thinks that he is above the terms of that contract. SMH, anyone who couldn't see this coming had their head buried too far up Ward's ass.

I wouldn't have thought you'd piss blood after a few little slaps to the body. Maybe you have a weak body and you're just talking from experience?

That website is a joke though. It says 7m for Kov guarantee, which is hilariously wrong. Kov made 2 in guarantee, his guys barely broke even. So what can they do this time to satisfy the grand diva, take under 1m?

Beautiful? It was an ugly mess of constant clinching and mauling. Nothing was remotely beautiful about it. It was just a stinkfest of illegal boxing.

Maybe next time Ward will bring back his third fist and use his head. You know he loves that move as well.

Short end of the stick? LMAO..... what are you talking about?

He just made 5 million dollars man......Kovalev was guaranteed 2 million to Ward's 5 million. Forget Ward, a fake ass punk like I have known he was for years.

I hope his lame ass does retire, do the sport a favor.
