Kovalev is clearly in a bad head space right now, taking shots like that. Here's what Doug Fisher from Ring Magazine had to say, "Golovkin hurt Canelo twice – first liver and then head. Canelo came out strong trying to hurt him right away. Then Golovkin got him with a nice liver shot and then a few head shots that made Canelo spar a lot more gently. It was awkward in the room. It was Golovkin’s first real sparring in America. It was also clear Golovkin was holding back." Regardless of them being 22 and 28, it happened. Lamar Russ said he also saw "Canelo take a beating in camp" from GGG. Everyone wants to talk about how much Canelo has improved--and that's true! But GGG has also improved the same if not more. What Golden Boy is trying to do, is what all BS promotions try to do...they dump belts then try to wait for the guy to get old and then take the fight. Only problem is, GGG is in shape year round and almost seems to be getting better. So this will be an awesome fight to watch.

Canelo isn't the same fighter he was at that time and little g has only gotten older but you act like the same thing will happen all over again.
It's like saying your still the same punk kid who got jacked for your lunch money in second grade. Well maybe in your case you still are and your just jealous of Canelo.
But Canelo has improved and he will tap little g's ass when the fight does happen.

Can someone tell me how old was Canelo when he was sparring with GGG? Was this before the Mayweather fight, or after? I remember seeing Carl "The Truth" Williams beating on Mike Tyson when Tyson was a 17 yr. old amateur. Didn't really make a difference when they faced each other as pros!

Lol that's like saying "***** was never in the military so he's not fit to order a strike." I respect your opinion, but he obviously has eyes. If you, yourself, see someone get run over by a car, it still happened even though you've never worked at a crash test site, right? He wasn't defending his position via ego, he was simply just stating what he saw...as were numerous other people at the camp. I'm not a Canelo fan nor GGG fan. I just want to see the fight.

It will be a great fight.

I have complete confidence that Canelo wins that fight and is more skilled in general. He won't be running, this fight will take place at close quarters and I give the edge to Canelo's faster hands and combinations.

Certainly won't be easy, but by all accounts the sparring was very competitive and Canelo was a 20 year old kid then, he's improved hugely since then and is FAR stronger physically.

What about Lamar Russ--the fighter that was there who sparred? Said the same thing as the journalist. Listen, neither you nor I were there. So no one can know for certain who's "right". And honestly, spending this much time defending a position is all ego. So I digress.

Years before the Mayweather fight, Canelo was 20.

I believe it said he was 21. Difference with that and Tyson is, Canelo already had 37 pro fights at this point.

Yes its 52-48 so nelo should stop impying inferioruty to ggg and making poeople hype GGG too much.

Canelo and Khan take alotta crapola on these blogs, from fans who have written them off. But it's my guess that Canelo will make a good accounting of himself vs GGG. And I would say win a UD. He's in his prime, as many have said, while GGG is getting old. If Canelo can keep some fast combinations going for most of the fight, he will confuse GGG to no end. He will have to be consistent throughout though. Can't give GGG any room to get comfortable.
