Andre Ward says, a Sergey Kovalev rematch must make sense first. What does that mean?

      That's not how it works...

Most likely, the terms of the rematch were already drawn up beforehand... Or at least the "outline" of it...

If you have a rematch clause, that means you are obligated to accept that, and if not, you can't fight. If he can't reach an agreement, he'd have to go to court to say the clause should be ruled unenforceable... It'd be a real mess.

It'd be years before he could fight someone else, and that's IF the courts agreed with him.

        EXACTLY!

Ward was guaranteed more than DOUBLE what Kovalev was?

        WTF does Ward expect?

Anyway, the terms were most likely already decided in the contract he signed

Unless a court rules it unenforceable, he's gotta face Kovalev, or retire.

Hahah Ward thinks he's "got options." I bet he retires rather than give Kovalev the rematch,

It doesn't really matter, everyone knows he lost. Just like everyone knows Pac beat Bradley int he first fight, and everyone knows Whitaker beat Chave.

I don't know, the contract shouldn't be able to force him to agree to an extension with HBO, if he feels the deal that they presented isn't adequate. There appears to be a gray area in which he could forego an extension with HBO,but continue to negotiate the contract with Kovalev. As long as it appears to be in good faith I don't see he isn't upholding his end of the contract. Obviously, this is all contingent upon there not being a clause in the that specifies that the fight take place on HBO.

I have no idea what that means.

After watching their first fight which was very close and exciting, nothing makes more sense than an immediate rematch.

it wasn't very close or exciting. a close exciting fight is lebdevev-gassiev. ward-kovlev was just a necessary fight that had to happen but unfortunately the wrong guy who doesn't like to fight and acts like a diva was given the decision so instead of moving on with other good fights in the divsiion we have to deal with his b-itch ass for another 5 years or so. if ward had lost he would have gone away or taken the rematch. strangely enough winning made him less likely to fight kovalev again.

Ward is a joke, no street cred. Knows he lost (or at least feels it was close), but acts like there's no way in hell he'll give a rematch. Stop being a b#tch and make the fight. If you think you won the first fight so clearly, then you should have no problem stepping back in again. Godamn pathetic God-name-using hypocrite.

If he tries to fight another man, all Duva has to do is go to a judge and get an injunction against the fight. Don King did it against what's his face - Mayorga - more than once I believe lol.

Ward don't want it - he knows what time it is.

Lol history will remember exactly what happened - three american judges, and a biased american ref, who let Ward get away with the most holding, and clinching I've ever seen, who got put on his arse, and made the fight ugly as hell, but still got outboxed in the championship rounds, got a gift decision...

Lol, yeah Ward, just like "history" has the Whitaker/Chavez fight a draw too, aye? Or the Bradley beat Pacquiao in the first fight, aye? Hahah.
Ward looking like Sven Ottke except that he doesn't have a great one-punch KO win.

You didn't think the fight was exciting? It wasn't fight of the year or anything, but I thought it was a fun fight.

I think Ward has his doubts about winning a rematch. He knows the judges gave him the benefit of the doubt and gave him all the close rounds.

exciting for a ward fight sure but no it wasn't very exciting as a whole.
