I thought Kovalev definitely beat Ward but there's always room for improvement. I hope JDJ picked up on some stuff besides "just do the same thing again except don't get tired". There are definitely a few alterations to his gameplan that I think Kov could make next time

Ah shyt man! The knock out was there and he didn't take it. Ward was a KO waiting to happen and he let him off the hook. Good luck on trying to win a points decision on the three official judges scorecard in the rematch.

That was about the most disappointing thing about his performance. Early on; Especially in the first 2 rounds, it was a very apparent that Kov was clearly the stronger guy and puncher. He hurt Ward with virtually every punch he landed.

If Kovalev wasn't in peak condition in the biggest fight of his career then there's something wrong in that training camp.

Some people say Kovalev and Jackson don't get along maybe there's some truth to that.

I don't know how much more in shape he can get considering he's turning 34 soon

In Kovalev's biggest fight and the chance to be the legit P4P fighter he was not in top shape?

The rematch maybe the same or slower. Kov pacing himself and Ward being cautious and holding more

That's as big if cause I haven't seen his "shape" improve this whole time.

Ahh and btw here's another excuse for the Ward haters.

"Ward got a gift AND struggled vs an outta shape fighter."

Virgil was saying weeks before the fight, that Kovalev fades in the later rounds! Maybe Virgil watched more tape than JDJ.
