It's a very distressing state for the sport when there are only 2-3 fighters capable of bringing a million+ viewers to an HBO broadcast. A million used to be okay, and now it's something to be celebrated, because most fighters are peaking at these kinds of numbers.

kov's really a nonfactor without a belt now..he turned down a possible 10m purse bid ..only to lose his belt for 2 million..that's just dumb

I think that's normal. Chocalito vs Cuadras averaged 833k, ended at 767k, and peaked at 951k.

I'm still kind of confused by what the end number is supposed to mean. But by definition, peak has to be larger than average. Unless peak is only counting live viewers.

EDIT: Okay, I think I got it. In 12 round fights, the difference between the two times given is exactly 47 minutes. So the usual reported average starts at the first bell, and ends at the last bell. The end rating must be the average during the decision, interviews, and whatever is left till the end of the broadcast.

Regardless of the fight outcome, those are ****ing horrible numbers for boxing.

You had the Ward/Kovalev replay and Lomo/Walters. A year ago people would've expected 1.5mill for a tv rating for those two shows, now only half that. Two of the most competitive and anticipated fights the sport had to offer this year and it flopped on tv.

The sports ****ed over right now. Too many months where there's been no boxing or uncompetitive match-ups.

What I don't get is, why would millions of people sit down to watch shit like Batman and not stick around for (what promised to be on paper) a damn good boxing fight? Eeeeeeediats. Talk about having no taste...

I think HBO should have showed Loma vs Walters first and then show the reply of Kolv vs Ward.

A couple of my friends fell asleep and missed the fight watching the replay of Kov and Ward.
