Comments Thread For: Lomachenko Dials Down Walters Criticism After Dressing Room Talk

LAS VEGAS Vasyl Lomachenko showed Nicholas Walters much more mercy after emerging from his dressing room Saturday night than he did during their fight. Lomanchenko dominated the previously undefeated Walters, who quit following the seventh round of what amounted to an easy victory for the defending WBO world super featherweight champion. The uniquely talented Ukrainian southpaw initially criticized Jamaica's Walters for telling referee Tony Weeks he didn't want to continue in their HBO main event at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan.

Walters was humiliated, discouraged and outclassed. I give him a pass because he had no chance to win. He had nothing for him.

What really pissed me off though was when they showed the replay of his corner. They still had the will to go on but Walters with his clean face just vehemently told Weeks that he wanted to stop.

I don't exactly support what Walters did, but he was so outclassed, at least part of me understands you can't fully judge the situation until you're the one getting hit in the face by a guy that hasn't even shifted from first gear. Walters seems like a good enough guy, I'm not sure how he comes back from this mentally, but he needs a few tune-ups Andre Ward style and then he can test the deeper waters again.

TR should release Walters ASAP because #1, he didn't accept the initial chance to face Lomachenko, and #2, he quit when he did get a chance to face Lomachenko! It's obvious he's a very disgruntled employee, and quitting was the ultimate sign of disrespect!

Give the guy a break. Lomo was turning it on. The guy didn't even know where Lomo was, let alone where the punches were coming from. He was mentally broken.

Maybe im of the minority, but I would have at least went out there and made it dirty for a while, then the first decent punch I would've went down. Boxing is life and death so i'm not gonna criticize him, but damnit man, at least bite the mofo

What could he possibly do? He needs to set his feet to punch and couldn't even get off. He exhausted all of his resources, everything in his arsenal and it was not good enough.

This is like in little league sports when the score is like 60-0 so they shorten the game so the kids don't get humiliated.

We turned the tv off knowing who the superior fighter was. It wasn't like Walters had a chance at a comeback.

The reason he quit was because he couldn't do a thing to Lom and was being dominated. If he thought he could win or was winning, he would not have quit.
