I didn't see Pero's first fight, as a matter of fact the only fight of his that I saw was this quarterfinal and I was impressed.

Yeah the black kid from the U.S that fought the Japanese kid was indeed Castro. Well, when you said that you have to look out for him I thought you were serious...

I don't see much talent these championships from either country TBH.

The Cuban team, besides Pero I think the talent is very low. The Youth National Team in Cuba should be dismantled and started over. They are obsessed with long fighters on that team and as a result you have a lot of fighters with very little co-ordination and are pretty basic to tell you the truth. 1 or 2 exceptions on the team.

The kids that I saw from Russia earlier this year against Cuba in that competition...I mean the most impressive kid from Russia is not even in the competition WTF.

I think Cuba and Russia, both countries's farm systems are not good. At least I saw some good fighters from Russia that as you say are not getting the opportunities. From the Cuban team all I see is lanky, tall kids with little movement and throwing the same combos over and over. That's not even Cuban boxing.

This kid Ilya Popov, is he in the tournament?

It was a close fight. It's not like he got a gift. He just fought the wrong fight. Pero has impressed in his last two fight though.
If he wins this tournament he'll be the first Cuban in a while to take Gold at the World Junior Championships and World Youth Championships.

Oh, I know who you are talking about. You're talking about the US Lightweight, Delante Johnson. Yeah, he's not that impressive either. I didn't get to watch his fight against the Japanese kid because I was annoyed that they gave the decision to Marc Castro and I ended up not watching the rest of the session. Johnson looked good in his first fight, but I thought he lost his second fight and it looks like he also didn't look too good in his third fight (against the Japanese kid).
Marc Castro is a different guy and he is a horrible fighter.

I agree to be honest. There isn't a lot of talent at these World Youth Championships. They've been disappointing.

The Cuban team isn't too bad, but not great either. I didn't see anyone that I see that would able to take a spot on the Senior team in the next year or so, except Dainier Pero. Pero is really talented and I could see him being on the Senior team as early as next year.

Russia can definitely do better. Most of the team they sent to these Championships aren't even experienced at World level.
Russia's Junior team is much better.
Ilya Popov is part of that Junior team. He's 16 years old, so he'll probably fight at the 2018 World Youth Championships unless the Russian system buries him.

The 2016 olympics were a very fresh games when it comes to young fighters, Robeisy Ramirez was the only fighter to repeat the gold and he is only 22, in comparission with 2012 for example when you had Shiming, Lomachenko, Cammarelle, Usyk, Sapiyev, Iglesias and Russo going to their second or third games.
So probably the 2020 games would repeat a lot of fighters because the 2016 fighters were so young.

wow he's quite young, his name sounds familiar from the junior championship, but i don't remember him.

I recently moved to a new house so i haven't connected my computer and my hard drive isn't here yet, but which are the best fighter of the tournament so far?, so when i get the pc i can download the fights and look for them.

In particular I liked two Kazakhs, Sadriddin Akhmedov and Bek Nurmaganbet

HI-TECH Boxing 's favourite, Marc Castro, is on next

In round one I think Abdurasulov has played right into Castro's hands and allowed the fight to turn into a scrappy affair

Some heavy shots exchanged in round two despite the scrappy inside work and Castro's nose is bloodied, but Abdurasulov seems to have lost his temper and is deducted a point for fouls

Round three is a war, but Castro seems more comfortable in this kind of fight and lands the cleaner blows while Abdurasulov becomes increasingly ragged

Dossen (IRL) v Margarian (RUS) at Light Welter now

Dossen is a slick black Irishman in the tradition of Andre Ward and Muhammad Ali. Nice movement. The Russian successfully closes the distance a couple of times but Dossen's potshots probably won round one

Margarian closes round two very strong and lands some great shots. Seems to have found his range

The Russian does the better work in round three also and gets the decision. He gets some nice leverage on his short shots

Erdemir looks very good. Strong and accurate. One of the better fighters I've seen at this tourney

The Belarusian is having no luck and just seems to be a worse version of his opponent

Erdemir is the first Turkish boxer I've seen that wasn't a stocky pressure fighter. Could be a star in the making, like a Turkish Rabii

Bek Nurmaganbet, one of my favourites so far, is up next

Gutsy round two from the German but he's clearly outgunned. Nurmaganbet's offensive arsenal is beautiful but I've noticed that he has no defence apart from his feet, so if you can catch him flat-footed he's a sitting duck

Hutchison looks pretty damn good. Picks his shots brilliantly. Completely outboxing a tricky opponent here

Better round three for Nevin but Hutchison still landed the cleaner shots for my money. I have the Scot taking it 3-0
