that sucks. i was planning on attending some WSB in york hall earlier in the year but ended up procrastinating and missing my chance. hopefully they'll be back in london for season 7

i feel like attending an amateur boxing event might actually be better than most pro events, since there are few mismatches and basically every bout in tournament boxing is significant. whereas the pro cards that i've been to contained a lot of fluff

That guy, Marc Castro, is probably the most hyped boxer in the tournament, it's obvious that they are hyping him for tokyo 2020.
ababiy was beaten in the quarter final by a kazakh named nurmaganbet (link: https://********/TAe6Rl9hdfc?t=1h10m). looks like he struggled with the range, southpaw stance and power of his opponent

i think USA has four fighters in the semis though

They're definitely trying to hype up Castro. You would think they would be trying to hype up someone better than this kid.
They were also trying to hype up Gabriel Flores, but Flores is going pro now. With Flores I can actually see why someone would try to build him up. He's talented. I just don't see it with Castro. He's so sloppy.
He did a good job of making Charles Frankham uncomfortable. Piskunov didn't let Castro push him backward though.

AIBA will stream the Semifinals and Finals if I'm not mistaken.

People better get ready to be impressed by the highly skilled Marc Castro. Guy is super freaking talented. Never seen anybody like him.

So far, the most impressive to me has been Dainier Pero from Cuba. He threw 100 punches per round, in and out, left and right, body shots, uppercuts, didn't get touched and busted up the kid from Poland AND he is a heavyweight or cruiser. Crazy skillset and engine for a guy that big.

The black kid that beat the Japanese kid in the Quarters?

He is fast and throws great combos, but his feet are kinda slow and stiff. Maybe it was just this fight, didn't impress me that much.

Where is this Russian kid that I asked you about? Is he in the tournament?

I told you to watch out for Pero, didn't I? He has a little of La Cruz in him doesn't he?
I thought he lost his first fight, but it was a close fight it wasn't a robbery or anything. He just came out a little crazy and his opponent kept catching him. Pero has looked great since that fight though.
Dainier is much better than his brother. I can definitely see him making the Senior team next year.

No, Marc Castro is an American fighter. And I'm just being sarcastic. I don't think Castro is all that good. In my opinion he has received two gift decisions in this tournament.
He is so freaking sloppy. I can't wait for you to see him if you get to watch the semifinals and/or the finals. I'm not sure if I've seen a sloppier fighter than Castro. It's a shame they had to screw a pretty good fighter in Piskunov to get Castro into the Semifinals.

No, that Russian kid is not here. The Russian team is quite poor at these World Championships. I already told you that Russia always gives the opportunities to less talented boxers for some odd reason. The only real talented one was Nikita Piskunov and he got robbed yesterday against Marc Castro.
Believe it or not some Russian fighters have been screwed at this tournament. AIBA is probably trying to punish them.
Look the Russian team at Rio was awful and they got gift decision, but they also shouldn't punish their young talent for their crappy Senior team. I think Russia has some of the best young fighters coming up right now.

One Russian fighter that I'm really high on is Ilya Popov. He's still a Junior and I see a lot of potential. He won the World Junior Championships last year and he won the European Junior Championships this year and got fighter of the tournament. I think this kid is really good.
I'm just worried that the Russian system won't give him an opportunity to develop properly. We shall see.

I didn't see Pero's first fight, as a matter of fact the only fight of his that I saw was this quarterfinal and I was impressed.

Yeah the black kid from the U.S that fought the Japanese kid was indeed Castro. Well, when you said that you have to look out for him I thought you were serious...

I don't see much talent these championships from either country TBH.

The Cuban team, besides Pero I think the talent is very low. The Youth National Team in Cuba should be dismantled and started over. They are obsessed with long fighters on that team and as a result you have a lot of fighters with very little co-ordination and are pretty basic to tell you the truth. 1 or 2 exceptions on the team.

The kids that I saw from Russia earlier this year against Cuba in that competition...I mean the most impressive kid from Russia is not even in the competition WTF.

I think Cuba and Russia, both countries's farm systems are not good. At least I saw some good fighters from Russia that as you say are not getting the opportunities. From the Cuban team all I see is lanky, tall kids with little movement and throwing the same combos over and over. That's not even Cuban boxing.

This kid Ilya Popov, is he in the tournament?
