At that point would you keep Savon, who is still young enough to comeback, but may have already hit his ceiling or would you go with a young guy in Pero who could have a high ceiling.
Savon is a small Super-Heavy but I think he has a better physique to be successful at Super-Heavy than Pero does. Dainier Pero has pretty short arms.
The fighter he fought in his first fight was Nikoloz Begadze of Georgia.

Elio Crespo could take Veitia's spot if he's able to keep making 52kg, but I doubt he'll be able to make 52 for four more years. He's already pretty tall for the weight class. And at 56kg he would need to dethrone Ramirez, which means good luck with that.

I don't see Grinan or Morrell as special talents. Their big moments will be at these Championships. It happens all too often. Really good/great Junior and/or Youth boxers but never make it at Senior/Elite level.

I don't know, maybe they move Erislandy to super-heavyweight. He knocked out Yoka cold and he dominated Joshua but of course they had to give it to Joshua.

I think at this stage Erislandy beats Dainier but you're right Erislandy has reached his ceiling if he hasn't regressed and Dainier has a lot of upside. If Savon stays at 91 he'll be either 2nd or 3rd best in the world. Frank Sanches is gone and nobody knows where he is LOL.

I don't see anybody else from this team competing for a spot with the Men's team.

I think Pero has a lot of potential and he is only 17 years old, he barely turned 17 over a month ago. It would be disappointing if they don't let Dainier develop properly.
I think Savon can still be successful at Super-Heavy.
Like you mentioned he has dominated the last two "Gold medalist" at Super Heavyweight.
The heavyweight division had some talented boxers at this tournament.
I really like what I see from Pero. Even if he doesn't get Gold. The Russian he is fighting is really good and NEETzsche can back me up on that. So even if Pero doesn't take the Gold no shame in that.
Heavyweight is one of the tougher divisions in this tournament.

I think all the boxers in the senior cuban squad (that arguably was the best ever), have reached their ceiling.
And besides La Cruz, all of them are beatable.

Castro (USA) v Toltayev (KAZ) right now

Castro wins all three rounds for me. He has an odd style but he does consistently find a home for his punches

I missed Light Fly and Flyweight :\ Who won?

Edit: So it seems that Tsutsumi won at Flyweight. I'm happy to see that as he has a nice style

Johnson (USA) v Mirzarakhimov (UZB) at Lightweight now

Close round one between the two counter-punchers. I give the edge to Uzbekistan, his long arms are an advantage

Three close, somewhat ugly rounds, but I gave them all to the Uzbek

The judges disagree and give the fight to Johnson. As I said, the rounds were all close since there wasn't that much landing clean from either side. Johnson had the quicker, shorter shots, but I felt like Mirzarakhimov's long raking leads stood out a bit more. Oh well, second gold medal for Team USA

Erdemir (TUR) v Margarian (RUS) at Light Welter now

Erdemir comes out guns blazing and dominates the round, but ultimately doesn't leave a dent on his Russian opponent. Hope this reckless gameplan doesn't lead to him gassing early

Erdemir still landing eye-catching shots to Margarian's head, but is visibly fatigued now and Margarian is having some success closing the distance and landing short shots, particularly on the body. I feel like with a smarter gameplan Erdemir could have won this easily but instead will now have to scrap it out in round three

Erdemir is dog-tired in round three and spends a lot of time spoiling. Margarian snatches it with his workrate but not as emphatic as he probably needs

Erdemir wins the decision. Fun fight

Akhmedov (KAZ) v Gula (UKR) at Welterweight now

Akhmedov shows us another new look and approaches this fight as a boxer-puncher on the backfoot. Cleansweeps the rounds and wins gold, although Gula is bullish and gets through his defences sporadically. Akhmedov is my favourite fighter of the tournament

Now it's the fight of the day, Scotland's William Hutchison v Kazakhstan's Bek Nurmaganbet at Middleweight, two very impressive fighters. It's also Great Britain's only shot at gold

Awesome action between two class operators. Hutchison is a real sharpshooter, I slightly favour him in round one

Great fight. Hutchison wins thanks to his weightier punches, superior conditioning and slightly more responsible defence. Gold for Scotland

Morrell (CUB) v Savitsky (UKR) at Light Heavy

Just found out that Grinan lost to Sachin at Light Fly earlier, so that makes two silvers for Cuba so far

Savitsky is taking a bit of a beating

                    Dominant performance by Morrell
