Why are people acting as if Kovalev completely outlanded Ward? He outlanded him by 10 total punches. Not 20 not 30. 10... and all the people saying "all ward did was jab"... ok, so suddenly the most used and important punch in boxing counts for nothing? Come on. The rounds kovalev won he dominated. Ward squeaked out every round he won. 5 dominant rounds (plus a knockdown) was edged by 7 not so dominant ones.

Plus fights are scored round by round so if Kovalev landed 10 more (according to compubox) punches over a 12 round fight and dominated the 5 rounds he won it would stand to figure more than that margin of 10 was built up in those 5 rounds.

That leaves 7 where Ward edged him out.

If people want to talk about how boxing should be scored differently alright I can dig that, but with the way fights are currently scored Ward won not by how fights should be scored differently in the future.

Like Duva said, Kovalev definitely won round 10 (among others obviously) 21 hard punches to 16 pity pat punches for the most part. Yet all 3 judges gave the 10th to Ward? Ridiculous. Kovalev knows what to do now. Can't get a decision vs Mr Shiny Olympic Medalist Guy, so he'll just drop and stop him and get that little inconvenience outta the way. Then maybe on to Stevenson, hopefully.

At this point, more or less every sane person would agree Kovalev won decisively.

Yeah but why say that when it's clearly not the case?

A quarter of press row had Ward winning.

Plenty of fans had Ward winning.

A large percentage of the cards that had Kovalev winning were extremely close mostly by 1 point.

What does all of this point to? A very close fight.

i gave ward rounds 3,5,7,8,9,11,12 only 1 of those rounds i gave to ward that he didnt equal kov in punches was the 12th, kov landed 1 more punch than he did.

i think its very unfair to kovalev that for the first time he didn't totally dominate his opponent either by ko or widely outpointing like he did bh. They find an excuse to rob kov.

Kov shouldn't have to be out under pressure to ko everyone or win every round!

The first time an opponent doesn't totally get annihilated they take advantage and rob kov.

Kovalev not only outlanded Ward and knocked him down, he landed the harder shots throughout the fight.

No.... 7 rounds for ward means Kovalev wins 5 (plus the knockdown). If ward doesn't get dropped and all the rounds stayed the same he would've won 115-113 instead of the 114-113.
