Comments Thread For: Kovalev: Forget Decision, I Want a Knockout in Ward Rematch!

Clearly Kovalev's inside game is weak. He clinched whenever Ward got too close, and simply waited for the referee to break them up. The headlocks were in response to Ward's tactic of advancing with his head low and forward like a billy goat. Head butts aren't called unless blatant but it only takes one "accidentally on purpose" hit to truly disadvantage the recipient. Kovalev had no interest in playing that game.he tried to get a KO but couldn't, ward adjusted like the greats do. .maybe in the rematch kovalev wont be scared to war on the inside like he was this time..all those excessive headlocks should've gotten a point deduction for that. .ward has the confidence of knowing he can deal with kovalevs power, and basically dissected him after the 5th round. .a rematch won't be close, if kovalev foolishly rushes in lookin for a KO, he's gettin timed and put to sleep.. the big bad wolf, with all that power and reach, scared to death of a phone booth war against the supposedly feather fisted ward.. kovalev got exposed and ward will flatline him in a rematch..be careful what you wish for big fella.
I also think Kovalev aiming strictly for a KO in a rematch would increase that chance of being KTFO. He's going to have to keep Ward on the outside and ensure his punch output doesn't drop too much in the later rounds. But he probably won't be able to totally avoid engaging in close quarters so he has to make Ward pay for trying to close the gap, maybe with a timed uppercut, but more basically, to keep pumping that long, stiff jab ALL NIGHT.
I don't feel that Kovalev was exposed. The general consensus was that Ward is the more versatile athlete with deep elite-level experience; while Kovalev has the heavier hands and underrated skills. I don't think last weekend has changed this assessment.Comment

I only read Ward's victory in this us forum, in all the pappers around the world they all say "ROBBERY", Come on people...it's ok, it's understanable that you support your countrymen but really?...... Ward win..?? Bull:::t.... I can't believe that people say that Ward is of great technique being so dirty, if your technique get you to win without hugs,elbow-punches,low-shots and judge's help then you are great technique but if you needed all that sh... then you simply aren't because you can't win with that "technique".Comment

IMO Ward lost by at least 3 or 4 rounds. Kovalev was by far the effective aggressor and he put more hurt on Ward than the other way around. Ward's face looked terrible and he sounded concussed in many of his post fight interviews. There's a huge difference between inside fighting and initiating clinches. Be that as it may I felt like I got my money's worth and I'd happily pay to see a rematch. Sometimes it ain't prettty when the best fights the best but let's appreciate both combatants. My man Ward knows he was in a serious fight and if he's smart he won't fight again until April or May. Props to Kovalev for making it a fight agreeing to all of Ward's terms. #Ward/Kovalev IIComment

But he wasn't schooled at all this fightI mean, he said he wanted to KO Ward before the first fight, and couldn't do it.
Also, the knockdown was only a flash knockdown since it came from a right palm strike more than a straight right.
I mentioned he was going to get schooled and Kov gets schooled even harder on the second fight.Comment
