everyone brings up ward holding but fail to acknowledge that kovalev held anytime ward tried to get on the inside, that was his game plan but why is there no complaints??? kov obviously didn't want any parts of the inside, he wanted that comfort and distance which he did a great job at controlling in the first half of the fight, the body shots and grind wore him down, props to both fighters this was a great fight for those who love the sport. 2 of the top men in the sport clashing of course it will be close u people are whack!

These guys are liars, cheaters, and hypocrites, calling other fighters who fought Kovalev "cowards" (wtf?) even though they're the only ones who needed over a year of special planning to get in the ring with him, and pretending they won when they got dominated. I have no interest in anymore Andre Ward fights. He didn't show me anything. Outboxed all night, scared to exchange, the only rounds he could win were from fouling because he had a biased referee, and he still lost. Overrated fighter. Floyd is a master boxer from the outside... Ward showed his actual boxing is very overrated. All he can do is use his advantage that refs will let him fight an MMA fight while only allowing his opponents to fight by boxing rules. Ward's only advantages come from outside the ring, from politics, from corruption. Take away his fouling and instead of losing 8-4 like he did, he either gets knocked out or loses almost every round.

It's not my problem though. It's their sport. The Nevada Commission, the refs. It's their sport to guard. Not mine. I can't do nothing about it. So if they want to run the sport even further into the ground, that's on them.
Come on.... You know deep inside that Kova was the one who got outboxed. Stop being sour. The fight was very close, in fact, I would have been equally happy if it had gone the other way. Both of them deserved to win, but there was only room for one of them.

Calling other fighters cowards. Really? A trainer should never talk about other fighters like that.

And why should Kovalev fight inside when it doesn't suit his skill set? Why did Andre stopping stop fighting mid-range? Oh maybe because it didn't work in the first 2 rounds? Is Andre a coward too, Virgil?

😂Virgil really got some people emotional. Funny to watch. Amusing how people get outraged when certain fighters get called out.

I gotta give it to Virgil, this is a smart move IMO.
I think that actually may help Kovalev. I personally thought he was overthinking things in there when Ward started to initiate all the clinching.

Actually when the two were boxing in the beginning with no clinch, just fists, it was Kovalev who was clearly outboxing Ward. When Ward started initiating clinches is when things got ugly.

He held Ward when he came on the inside, he didnt let him do what he does and he was the agresor. If it was up to Kovlev it would have been toe o toe but we know thats not Ward`s style. Kovalev had to do something about Wards holding and he did and won 8 rounds to 4 but got robbed.

Dont get me wrong, i wanted Ward to win, i won 100 bucks off a bet in this fight but i should have lost those 100 bucks since Kovalev got robbed.

There is so little objectivity on this thread. It was a close fight. No one got schooled here. I felt that Kovalev won his rounds more decisively than Ward won his...and not just the second round. Ward eeked out his rounds with inside activity. Ward seemed more busted-up than Kovalev at the end of the night. That's not how boxing is scored, though, and although I don't agree with the outcome, it is fair.

Rematch better happen. Kovalev needs better conditioning.
