Kovalev won but it was close. In america you get rounds for being black and 'looking' slick. showboating also scores, thus Degale's victory over Medina.

I had it 114-113 for Kovalev. Judges seemed to go for Ward in the toss-up rounds. Sergey won the jab battle for the first half of the fight but started to miss a lot more thereafter. It's a little frustrating to see someone win that fight having landed little enough of substance, but Kovalev just wasn't finding his mark often enough to make it clear in the later rounds. Good fight. Rematch would be 50-50.

114-113 Kovalev on live watch with multiple people at my house for a fight party. I always watch again alone and often my score will change. But I thought there were definitely 3-4 really close rounds to score....

Have to say that Kovalev is an even better boxer than I thought he was. I reckon Ward is one of the best fighters I have ever seen and there's a strong argument Kovalev beat him. They proved they are two of the best of their generation last night. Hope we get the rematch relatively soon.

I felt Kovalev did enough to get the decision, but several of the rounds were difficult to score so no issues with others seeing it differently.

Kovalev landed very little in the second half of the fight. Neither did Ward of course, but that never seems to matter in Vegas. I thought Ward won the second half of the fight. But he won it 4-2 or maybe 5-1. Between the three judges they see just one round for Kovalev in the second half of the fight? Come on. They expect us to buy that.
