A lot of these guys think keeping the bull at bay is the same thing as thing as beating it. They think as long as they make the other guy less effective it is the same as them being effective. Apparently all a defensive fighter has to do is survive and make the other guy look bad for him to get a decision, he doesn't have to do any damage of his own. Boxing has gotten so far away from fighting that it is ridiculous.
Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward - Official PPV Discussion

Kovalev landed more punches, cleaner punches, harder punches, and was in command of more rounds. He also severely wobbled Ward in the opening round and dropped him in the 2nd.
Ward racked up questionable referee/judge-dependent points by basically drumming his gloves on Kovalevs torso... Hope that's a point... Hope that's a point... Hope that's a point...
Anyone disagree? What other area of the fight did Ward edge out in any round?Comment

Read this thread, a good % of fans had it scored just like the judges and I was one of them. In fact I was second guessing myself for only giving Ward 7 rounds. He probably won 8 rounds.I love how Ward fans do 'reverse engineering': first calculating the number of rounds he needs, then trying to sc**** that exact number of rounds... If there had been a second KDs, say in round 1, they would not be ashamed to say "yeah, Ward won all the rounds from that point on!" to save the decision.Comment

Round 2: Kovalev 10-8
Round 3: Ward 10-9
Round 4: Ward 10-9
Round 5: Ward 10-9
Round 6: Kovalev 10-9
Round 7: Ward 10-9
Round 8: Kovalev 10-9
Round 9: Ward 10-9
Round 10: Kovalev 10-9
Round 11: Ward 10-9
Round 12:Ward 10-9
Kobalev:113

I feel bad for Kovalev that his first lost wasn't more definite. But he has nothing to be ashamed of great fight.

I would really like to know how the European fans feel about the endless robberies that happen every weekend in europe like in the solis fight last week.
Yet you guys a losing it over a fight that was a clear 1-2 fight difference for each fighter.Comment

That was the 1st round. 11 rounds left, cmon. People say who would you rather have been at the end of the fight, umm Ward, not just because he won, but I bet Kov felt the punishment more. Kov was noticeably affected by those body shots, the steam on his punches started to wane around round 5 or 6. What happened to the bull we are accustomed to?Ward got outboxed no matter how you spin it. I don't know why you're saying it's not a "bar room brawl".
The only explanation I'm seeing from anyone for how Ward won the fight is people counting the little taps he kept going on Kovalevs ribs and hip in the clinch. He got flat out beaten (and dropped) when he tried to box.Comment

And here comes the elitist fight fan BS. Make all the excuses you want. He stunk the place up again and got handled. Kovalev=the real light heavy champJudging by your list perhaps you dont know what boxing is, this isnt a bar room brawl. Rewatch the fight in slow mo, watch the misses, watch the body work, watch a fighter diminishing after the 5th round. Came back with a 2nd wind later on, but not enough according to judges.Comment
