I hoped maybe it was just better competition vs Pascal and BHOP, and better competition plus size disadvantage plus bad training camp against Chilemba. But, I've noticed it too. What made me think Kovalev on NBCSN was basically unbeatable outside of chin checking him was not only did he have elite power and distance and combos, but he threw like 80 punches a round. Crazy stamina for a light heavyweight. So even if you can take his power, he would just Leo Santa Cruz you anyway with constant points and win on rounds.
Haven't seen that lately. Maybe it's just because back then he only went a few rounds before KOing everyone. Maybe he knows vs better fighters he has to conserve more energy for all 12 rounds. Or maybe it's better competition. But, I've definitely seen exactly what you're seeing. If his stamina has really slowed then this fight will underwhelm us all again.
**** boxing, why can't they just make these fights before age 30-31, period? Never 32 or higher, that's always when decline starts.
