But eventually I opened my eyes and came to appreciate both guys. They are/were very good fighters and always fought the best. Unfortunately, some people can't get past their hateful views and appreciate certain fighters. Like I said in another thread and as the article says, some people wish boxing had more guys like BHop/Ward and even Kovalev in this case. Guys who aren't afraid to put everything on the line.

Kovalev knows he isn't a huge name and he knows the way boxing and its fans are nowadays, if he loses this fight this could be devastating to his career. But he's probably not thinking like that. He's probably thinking about the reward if he wins. What if he wins? This leads to much bigger things. And that's the mindset fighters need to have. Might not lead to better fighters than Ward but to more fame and more money.
I still can't stand Hopkins, but that dude earned a lifetime pass from me for fighting Kovalev. He had no reason to, at all. He did so because he thought he could win. He's a whiny, racist **** a lot of the time, but my respect for him as a boxer and everything he went through to become a star in the sport is unquestioned. He faced a lot of the bull**** that Golovkin is now. I don't know, something about the middleweight division always leads to freezing out the kingpins. Happened to Hagler, too.

The reason we don't get more Kovalev-Ward type fights definitely has to do with fighters thinking "What if I lose?" rather than "What if I win?" That's the difference in mindset between Kovalev/Ward and fighters like Danny Jacobs. Those fighters must lack the confidence guys like Kovalev and Ward do.

SOG seems to be a stand up guy, a real gem in the sport.

Not really a good match up, but a damn good fight doe, and the best match that could have been made in the limited time available after the Eubanks had kept everybody hanging on so long waiting for them to sign the contract.

If Haymon had guaranteed Danny 3.3 Quillins minimum, like Roc did with Ward, Jacobs would have signed to fight GGG by now.

He has done a great job selling himself, been the best part of these press conferences is him and Virgil Hunter, very smart men who are students of boxing and a fan of the sport in general.

              Look forward to tomorrow!

thats because a typical Ward fight wouldnt generate that kind of money. But if he DID fight a certain guy 2 divisions smaller (GGG), odds are he would demand quite a bit more than $5 million

Look, you might think that GGG didnt deserve $5 million for the Brook fight, and thats fine, thats your opinion. But the fight actually generated the money to pay him. Do you think Eddie Hearn, or K2, or someone else should have gotten the money instead?

GGG takes great fighters and turns them into the soup of the day or chases them to higher weight classes. He's famously underpaid.
