Well he does need to immediately put some heavy pressure on Ward from the start. Whether that means bombs away non stop is another subject entirely. IMO smart pressure will be the key to break down Ward, not let him get momentum. Can't give rounds to Ward or he'll get a rhythm going which is doomsday for Kovalev.

I'm fine with Kovalev fighting Hopkins and later Chilemba... two talented boxers who any fighter would have trouble looking good against. And it's laughable to say Ward is 10 x better than Chilemba. That's a ridiculous exaggeration. Better, yes. 10 x better? Pffffft.

We'll see soon enough, but any fan saying this is a breeze for Ward is just being delusional. Kovalev breaks Ward down IMO, but neither fighter will be out at the clubs dancing after this one.

A clinch is not a clinch with him it has Purpose besides rest all of a sudden your in the corner instead of in front, your being hit while your strong hand is held etc. things only the top minds learn and comprehend that's only the tip of the ice berg. You can move inches and be so out of position guy can't hit you it goes on and on
Good post , it touches the areas in boxing the average fan has no idea exists , just like Floyd and others like him their magic is in most fans not seeing what they are doing in relation to winning fights , the casual fan thinks they are cheating or being cowardly they have no clue to professional fighting thats right in front of their eyes , they just dont understand it its as they say , its not what you see its what you perceive .

Ward is a very efficient calculating fighter and Kov is just as good in his own style thats why I love this fight .

I agree, but coming in swinging for the fences at a fresh Ward spells doom. He's going to have to work him and take him apart piece by piece. Going for a straight decapitation....good luck.

He didn't look very good with Chilemba so hopefully it wasn't indicative of how the Ward fight ultimately turns out, either.

You should know a different fighter wont prepare you for another they only spend 36 minutes with them , a fight only prepare your timing conditioning and bring you to peak as you get to let it all out with match gloves on .

The only way Ward or Kov could prepare for each other is if they sparred each other on a regular basis , the aim of both fighters is to be in their zone next Sat night , thats all mental conditioning focus and tuning your body fans place way to much emphasis on sparring partner and previous fight , this is the big one I expect both Ward and Kov to be a lot better than their previous matches .
hopkins and chilemba (two awkward fighters and solid opposition) are better preparation than the bunch of cans ward has been fighting. even if i had been following boxing for a week, that would be pretty obvious

Exactly. That's why I said smart pressure. Hoping this turns out to be as interesting as it can be and not some boring Ward UD. Wanna see both fighters tested.

Chilemba has less pop than Ward and was snapping Kov' s head back like a PEZ candy dispenser with just jabs!

Kov is on for a rude awakening when he thinks he has SOG right right where he wants him then he double feints then turns Kov to land downstairs!

He'll frustrate the Russian till he opens up more and makes more mistakes which Ward will capitalize on and punish the Russian for!

Ward by UD, in his best performance yet!
