I remember watching it live. My neighbor at the time's wife called it in the first round and said, "He's gonna lose because he's not fighting like he used to. He's not moving his head", and walked out. We were all like, "Get outta here, it's the first round", but she was right. This was one of the worst days of my life, bruh.
There's a myriad of reasons why this happened like it did.
Tyson peaked early. He was champ at 20 in '86. Holyfield is actually 4 years older, but peaked later.
Tyson self-destructed getting involved with drugs, alcohol, Robin Givens, Don King, went to prison, and dealt with mental illness. People forget Mike was on Zoloft, which he said, "Kept him from killing all of y'all", but also sapped his energy and strength by this point.
Tyson lost Cus D'Amato, Teddy Atlas, Kevin Rooney, Jim Jacobs, & the rest of the Catskills crew
Also, now we know Holyfield was a big doper, which now makes sense considering how he went from 175 to over 210 at his peak.
