He does like to use that combo here and there. That was just the first fight that came to mind and I knew it would be easy to find on YT.

But just like when Ward does it (and his is a little snappier), it's effective because the opponent is used to defending against combos that end in a power punch, whether it's straight right (or a left for sp's), a hook, or an uppercut. They don't expect a jab to finish it off, so you can usually catch them off guard.

Also, you can see in the Agnew fight that Kovalev switches his stance instead of just moving forward, so te
Kovalev is smarter than people thinks.

It was just a 1-2-1 but he really sat down on the final '1' and had some legit force behind it

A 1-2-1 sounds quite easy or quite a common combination, put i haven't seen many fighters doing it or maybe i didn't put attention and i did this time because Ward did it in a really attractive way.

More than the jab i'm talking about the whole combination, it's harder than it seems.

Ward is hard to catch like that though because he doesn't stand straight up and he doesn't back up in straight lines. Ward bends at the waist and into his opponent a lot to smother them, one of the tactics that won him a lot of his big fights

holding and bending below the waist both illegal in boxing. no one cares though. GREAT DEFENSE! SLICK!
