Ive been watching boxing for 20 years and yes, 2016 was the worst year for boxing as far as i can remember.

Majority of you little kids havent been into boxing for long so ya probably dont realize it, but for a fact every year the quality of matchups have been going down.

Even in the early 2000s, i always used to look forward to watching fights on HbO, hbo bad etc but nowadays, it is hard to get up for fights. That intrigue and anticipation for a big fight isnt there anymore.

Boxing isnt what it used to be
    and that is the truth.

That is because Floyd Mayweather retired.

    He left a grand-canyon sized hole !!

It will take boxing years to recover, don't you agree ?

In summary, Oscar is right: 2016 hasn't been a great year in boxing but he is also an hypocrite because he is part of the problem. Everybody that follows boxing knows that 2016 has been a bad year. Maybe Schaeffer will help the sport going forward. It will be interesting to see how his relationship with Al Haymon plays out in the future. Al pretty much 'controls' the promoters that he works with but Schaeffer is not really a 'yes man' type of person.

so schaefers basically saying, 2016 was ****, but promoters should lie and tell people its been a good year otherwise it hurts the sport. perhaps you should think about actually making good matches you pencil pushing piece of crap instead of talking ****

and thats the truth of it, most of these people only started watching boxing from the pacquiao v mayweather fight and onwards. Its been a horrific year for the sport and the worst i can recall, but these clowns dont know anything different so they tell me that its been a great year and that im too negative.

One of the ****est years in boxing ever . Too much lip service and not enough fights that people wanted to see. Boxers turning into divas without any leverage demanding more money hiding behind promoters. 2016 the year pay per view fights died.

Exactly. Go look in the mirror Oscar. You were a big part of the problem.

You think boxing is failing right now and 2016 was one of the worst years because promoters arent putting on crap fights and calling them the best?!?!?!?! That is exactly what has gotten boxing to this point in the first place. People tune in to see the best fight the best. Al haymon got hundreds of millions and squandered almost all of it simply for that exact reason, he put on mismatches and boring fights andnobody tuned in. The only fights that got decent ratings were when the best were fighting the best aka santa cruz frampton thurman porter ect ect. Why do you think haymon settled and is now finally putting on fights with top rank? Its because arum knows how to promote boxing by putting on the tough fights which is something it took squandering hundreds of millions for al haymon to hopefully realize. Seriously what planet are you from you are either a troll or an alien with such a dumb comment like that and im usually very respectful of peoples opinions
I think that boxing is failing a sport because people aren't treating it as a sport. Too many parasites looking to leech off the attention of established fighters, and too many people with influence selling the sport's dignity for a moment of popularity.

If boxing is suffering, it is suffering because people don't care about it. Obviously millions upon millions will tune in to see the main attraction, but that's not what's needed for the sport to succeed on a week to week basis. What you need is people being interested in the sport which isn't helped by the promoters dismissing the work put in by fighters supporting the sport from the bottom.

And when I say interested, I mean more than following events to stay in the loop. I am talking about the interest that comes from someone liking a sport, the sort sort of interest that would have them not change the station when a fight they were unaware of catches their attention.
