Something isn't adding up. They tell us he's big enough to turn down $10mil for Canelo but he isn't even big enough to be on PPV against the #2 fighter in his division? If he can't afford to pay Jacobs $3 mil and fight on PPV how the hell is he worth more than $10 mil?? I know people are gonna say it's because GGG-Canelo will be a big PPV fight but how big can the fight be when Canelo himself only did 900k with an established PPV star? GGG-Canelo will probably top off at 700k. He's a bigger star now than before he first started fighting on HBO but his opponents purses are staying damn near the same. Provodnikov got paid more against Alvarado than Monroe Jr & Wade combined. Alvarado at the time was a bigger star than GGG is now? Something isn't adding up
Are GGG's opponents pricing themselves out or are they believing the GGG hype?

Glad that there are more people willing to ask those questions though. (even at 750k PPV buys, @$65 a pop, you're talking about $25m coming in on the PPV. Add the live revenue from JerryLand, sponsors, and the non-Mexico international TV, and you're honestly looking at $40m, for Alvarez/Golovkin/Golden Boy/K2 to split up. 20% to the promoters, and you're talking about Golden Boy offering $10m to Golovkin, with Alvarez's take being $20m [plus what he gets on Mexican TV]; a 66/33 split of the take as is, yet Golovkin's camp seem to think that that isn't enough).
The fact that Jacobs negotiations have gone as they've gone (initial non-interest, to big talk once Alvarez's allotted money came free, to radio silence, to initial bid talk, to radio silence again).
If the shoe were on the other foot, and Daniel Jacobs was the champion (with eyes set on a possible blockbuster fight with Saul Alvarez, and his camp looking to angle for an actual share of said event), there's no doubt that Jacobs would have his camp make the fight, DiBella will put his effort into maxing out the money for the fight in NYC, and everyone on Jacobs' side will use the result of the event as a flashpoint in negotiating for a share of a potential Jacobs-Alvarez fight.
Golovkin/K2 do their business weird and no one ever questions anythingComment

The more you ask the questions, the more the Golovkin Defense Force will manifest and slur you for even fathoming something is amiss.

1. Well, they waited too long and ggg aged (when Lil'G has taken hat L)
2.) They use he ducked and vacated when people ironically still don't or choose not to understand that its all because of purse bid fallouts and not agreeing, they call all that ducking because its the most practical thing to believe when Aside business is too much to handle.
It's the whole Floyd vs Pac crap again, instead Golovkin is significantly older than Alvarez and not really comparable to May Pac agesComment

Actually new media and us can change things as new reporting pose questions to industry. I need to get a hold of Dontae again like I used to...
They need to ask industry if Nelo vs Lil'G negotiations should be 60/40 the same as May vs Pac, or if 10 million NOW is toi little for Golovkin, and who makes more money with general popularity, Alvarez or Golovkin. Industry will give you the most realistic answers. It's good for youtube viewers to understand real testimony of wages and worth, not fanboy theoryComment

I believe its a lil of both. A juice isn't worth the squeeze situation. GGG is good & doesn't pay enough to fight for how good he is. Its not really anything THAT unique in boxing. Lotsa guys have been in similar situations from Floyd to Keith Thurman to many others. The unique angle with GGG might be that he's now the #1 guy in the division, which is historically a guy people wanna fight regardless of money, & people still don't wanna fight him like you'd think they'd wanna fight him in different eras.
It's a bit of a dilemma for team GGG though, given that HBO don't seem willing or able to stump up the big purses, how much are the willing to cut into GGGs purses in order to lure 'top' opponents? Specially when the 'top' guys at MW aren't really guys who are likely to further GGGs career that much anyway? Guess that's for them to figure out, I'd hope they would at least pony up for Saunders and the last strap but do they then run into the trap of having to overpay opponents time in, time out? There is no right or wrong answer, but as a fan of the good fights I sure as fuck hope they come up with something.
Like you say though. Nothing new in this situation.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-17-2016, 04:27 AM.Comment

Just for the record I think GGGs probably worth more like 30 - 35%, much like Jacobs is to GGG.
EDIT: And yeah, a broad canvass of industry opinion would be useful.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-17-2016, 04:35 AM.Comment

This is much how I see it. I believe in most cases the percentage splits Golovkin offers are generally what would be considered 'fair' according to the relative status of Golovkin and his opponents, it's just that the absolute $ figures aren't that great, certainly not what top fighters might expect from entering a fight with a guy that's supposed to be some kind of superstar. As you point out though, Golovkins reputation and the three straps make him a high reward proposition, you would have thought more top guys might want to take the risk, whereas what we're actually getting is a succession of guys who really don't have much to lose.
