I've never said that Lara needs to fight MWs first, but I can't see the hypocrisy. Canelo brings the MW lineage - tarnished though it may be - big(gish) numbers and lots of money. Lara merely brings significant purse demands and an awkward style. Perhaps they mean that Lara needs to offer something that GGG actually wants?Comment

Good news. Maybe he'll make it up to 159 by the end 2018.
And the full 160 by 2020.
Canelo vs. GGG for 2021. Mark your calendars, it's on baby!Comment

it make sens, people say Lara need to climb ranking and just like Canelo he never fought at MW,Canelo is not legit MW for now and is not even ranked there. He won title in 155 cash fight with Cotto and vacated it after Khan he have no obligation to fight GGG at all,let alone in his first 160 fight.Comment

EDIT. But no, FWIW I don't feel that Canelo is under any obligation to fight Golovkin, but he probably would have been well advised to drop the WBC strap earlier and saved himself some bad press. As far as I'm concerned the ball is in Canelo's court, he can fight Golovkin or not, delay or not, but it may impact negatively on his reputation if he doesn't.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-15-2016, 06:00 AM.Comment

Ah. Yes. Well I don't trouble myself overmuch with what other people want. It's obvious to see why Lara is a less desirable fight for Golovkin than Canelo though. I'd like Golovkin to fight Lara for instance, in some ways it's a more interesting fight for me than GGG - Canelo, but that doesn't stop me understanding why GGG doesn't have much interest.Comment

Yes indeed. I edited my post above already (before I read your reply). Like I say, Canelo's under no obligation to fight Golovkin far as I'm concerned. His only real reasons would be to avoid negative press and for the money it will generate, which he could probably make with less risk by fighting 2 or 3 lower profile opponents. Time is on his side after all. The only 'obligation' to fight Golovkin came with the strap, which, as I said, he would have been well advised to drop earlier.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-15-2016, 06:08 AM.Comment
