Manny and Roy both had power and didn't fall in love with it.

2-Julian Jackson..all his wins came by ko except 6 and all 6 of his losses came via ko..when his power failed he usually failed

      3-Earnie Shavers-out of his 14 losses 7 were via ko..in his 74 wins he had 68 ko's

Do fighters fall so in love with power that they forget the intangibles in boxing? And fo they go so hard for the ko that they to end up getting stopped because they ignore defense??

Look at Mattysee..a couple years back posters claimed he was an unstoppable force who could ko anyone and he ended up the one getting knocked around damaged and stopped...does the hype go to their heads?
Shavers was a terrific puncher but he didn't have much else. Jackson had speed and power but again, not grounded in boxing fundamentals. Tyson had mental issues.

Guys like Duran, Pacquiao, Chavez Sr, more recently Martinez and co had a combination of power and exceptional skill/psychological strength. If the punch didn't get you, something else would.

Bonito donaire! He admitted it after he lost to rigorous.

Donaire is cool as ****! He said he fell in love with his power.

Post fight, Rigo said, one punch won't finish me.

          It's not like he ******.
Every fight he has lost has been close. He was virtually tied with Postol before getting booked.

It's just that he has never been anything special. Down twice against the guy Broner obliterated? Seriously?

Rocky Marciano is the only pure power puncher champion in contemporary history.

Everyone else used power plus some other gimmick that's reflected in their form. like Tyson's speed and power. Mike throws his right hook using a load that has speed in mind while Rock doesn't.

It's a bit like talking about defensive fighters and leaving out Floyd. While you can claim others' defense has failed them, like say B-Hop, it's unfair to claim defensive fighting failed or fails in general. If you're not using a pure case then you're talking about the spectrum of sporks and I think you have your own answer once you recognize the impurity of their games.

It's not because Julian relied on power, it's because Julian relied on power with a **** defense. Where that's different from Marciano is Rock doesn't rely on his **** defense, he just has **** defense.

he deserved to win both those fights. maybe he didn't destroy both guys but he outboxed them and landed the better punches throughout. i think fans and judges think power punchers can't box and score rounds against them if they aren't beating up and destroying their opponents.

wtf are you talking about? did you see that fight? what matthysse did to molina was obliterating someone. broner just danced all night. as i said before the judah fight was a localist decision, could have gone easily to lucas (in fact garcia finished bad vs judah while lucas finished strong) and the alexander fight was a complete robbery. and the provo fight was a clear victory too. lucas lost to danny in a close fight and by KO with postol (a guy danny ducked lol)

Jackson didn't lost that 6 fights because his power failed him.
The only man that beat him in his prime was the ATG, HALL OF FAME and legend, Mike McCallum, Jackson later had two surgeries on his eyes, he was fighting almost without vision, he wasn't given a boxing license in USA for the same reason, after his fight with McClellan he was never the same, but he wasn't only past his prime when he fought the G-Man, it was a fight that left McClellan with serious injuries, Steward left Gerald because he was with headaches and excessive blinking after the fight with Jackson.
Out of 6 losses, 5 were past his prime.
