Shavers didn't really fall in love with his power he just lacked the skills really to make him a champ. Without his power he would have been a journeyman I am sure.

Yes, prime Tyson used an educated jab and broke guys down to the body whereas past prime Tyson was constantly looking for that 1 punch.

You can add Foreman to the list.

Not that it doesnt take huge skill to set up and land power punches, but a lot of punchers lack in other areas.

Must be difficult when your learning fights are mostly just a matter of time before you land a KO, or your opponents are so afraid of your power that they just shell up. You never learn how win rounds and fight tactically.

Saying that, there are definitely some power punchers who are also great boxers. It could be a bit of selection bias, as if you know someone as a 'power puncher' chances are that is there main, or even only, attribute.

Floyd had really good power until his hands fell apart both are good examples of powerful guys who didnt have to depend on it. There are many others, SRL had really good power as did Tommy Hearns, both were excellent boxers as well.
            Pillowfisted Floydette never had power.

He was just knocking out bums before he became addicted to xylocaine and became even more pillowfisted

1-Tyson, whenever his power failed he lost..when he could not ko his opponent more then likely he fell apart and was the one who ended up getting stopped

2-Julian Jackson..all his wins came by ko except 6 and all 6 of his losses came via ko..when his power failed he usually failed

              3-Earnie Shavers-out of his 14 losses 7 were via ko..in his 74 wins he had 68 ko's

Do fighters fall so in love with power that they forget the intangibles in boxing? And fo they go so hard for the ko that they to end up getting stopped because they ignore defense??

Look at Mattysee..a couple years back posters claimed he was an unstoppable force who could ko anyone and he ended up the one getting knocked around damaged and stopped...does the hype go to their heads?
A general rule of human nature is for people to fall in love with what they do best. The whole live by the sword die by the sword mentality is no different than a defensive wizard falling in love with what they do best and not taking big risks in a fight. People just tend to stick with what works best for them.

early in his career sure..but his downfall was when he fell in love with his power and his head stopped moving

                    More so Vitali.

                    incidentally GGG belongs with them.

There seem to be more layers to their thought than the others mentioned in the OP... who are more primitive by nature.
tbf certainly after his comeback Vitali didn't have brutal KO power. What he did have was enough power to hold his opponents off and make it pretty much impossible to beat him by decision. It was KO him or lose, and nobody got anywhere near KOing him.

lol. this is not true. the judah fight was a localist decision and the alexander fight was a plain robbery. the garcia fight was also close, why does people love to rewrite history?
