    Boxers with power

They all seem to fall in love with it and fail when their power does not take their opponents out..EXAMPLES

1-Tyson, whenever his power failed he lost..when he could not ko his opponent more then likely he fell apart and was the one who ended up getting stopped

2-Julian Jackson..all his wins came by ko except 6 and all 6 of his losses came via ko..when his power failed he usually failed

    3-Earnie Shavers-out of his 14 losses 7 were via ko..in his 74 wins he had 68 ko's

Do fighters fall so in love with power that they forget the intangibles in boxing? And fo they go so hard for the ko that they to end up getting stopped because they ignore defense??

Look at Mattysee..a couple years back posters claimed he was an unstoppable force who could ko anyone and he ended up the one getting knocked around damaged and stopped...does the hype go to their heads?

The short answer is yes but there have been many fighters with crushing power that didnt necessarily depend on it. Roy Jones is a good example, early in his career he was knocking everyone out and he probably could have knocked out a lot more but he became satisfied to go the distance in the later years of his dominant run. Floyd had really good power until his hands fell apart both are good examples of powerful guys who didnt have to depend on it. There are many others, SRL had really good power as did Tommy Hearns, both were excellent boxers as well.

The only people who don't seem to fall into that group are the Klitschko brothers. both high 80-90% tile finishers and can box to a UD with no problems. Kostya Tszyu is another one.

      More so Vitali.

      incidentally GGG belongs with them.

There seem to be more layers to their thought than the others mentioned in the OP... who are more primitive by nature.

For the most part power punchers can't win without power, but guys like Roy Jones Jr, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitscko, Deontay Wilder (Remember the Stiverne fight), and Miguel Cotto can box to

Incidentally the ones that have great power with a good amateur career don't fall the way of a typical power puncher

I think power is only effective against high level opponents when you have the technique to apply it. Look how much movement and discipline Tyson used in order to set up shots in his early days. When he ditched that and just relied on power he became "past prime Tyson". The movement, defense, the set-up for each shot was gone. Prison alone didn't do that. It's a change in training and fight mentality.

David Tua is probably a good example of this. Absolutely brutal knockout power, took the heads off some good fighters. But when he got drawn into a real boxing match - ie the Lewis fight, he couldn't get inside and had nothing. It was one shot KO or nothing.

But Tua hasn't been stopped. Big George was only stopped once in his 5 losses and he was a perfect example of someone who was overly reliant on his power.

I think you're probably overgeneralising a little. There's been plenty of guys known for their power who weren't KOs waitng to happen when someone could take it, but I think you're onto something with the bolded - yes, you do see some of these guys - especially the kinda highlight reel one shot KO guys (as opposed to the heavy handed break 'em down type), who did neglect defense looking for that fight ending shot. Overcommiting is always gonna be a chancy affair and sooner or later it will catch up with anyone - increasingly so in the higher weighclasses.
