That's not what happened. HBO was being cheap. Just as they're being cheap today with their boxing budget, they were cheap then. Stevenson was on board with fighting Kovalev and gave HBO a billion chances to match Showtime's offer in which HBO told Stevenson to go fcuk himself... Off he went to Showtime. End of story.

Take that 40 oz out your mouth like it's 1988 and stop lying all the time
And let me guess... Your inside sources told you this?

As Aldo pointed out, Stevenson has fought a string of crappy fighters for the past few years. What was the excuse for not fighting Pascal? He wasn't offered high quality foie gras the last time he had lunch at Pascal's house?

In fact, there were advanced talks for a Stevenson vs kovalev fight but Stevenson left HBO in order to sign with Showtime AND Al Haymon... At that point, Al Haymon took most of the GBP stable and B-Hop (who was and still is a GBP shareholder) chose to "pass the torch" to Kovalev...

            Why come in here lying?

That isn't what I heard. But whatever, there's still a chance this fight could happen.

RING and WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson got "a better offer" from Showtime than HBO, which opted not to renegotiate its deal with Stevenson, according to a statement released to ******.com by promoter Yvon Michel.

As a result of Tuesday's development, Stevenson's scheduled May 24 defense against Andrzej Fonfara will be on Showtime at Bell Centre in Montreal, in accordance with an earlier report by ******.com. The story was first reported by Yahoo!Sports.

"I have presented what I believed was an excellent multi-fight deal offer to Adonis from HBO with a deadline set for March 11th for approval. After discussions, we have decided to pass, and we got a better offer from Showtime. HBO had the right to match any offers, so we sent them a copy," said Michel in a prepared statement.

"They had until today to match it, but have decided otherwise. This was a pure business decision for all parties involved, nothing personal or immoral. We wish to praise Mr. Stephen Espinoza of Showtime for his ambition to do business Adonis and GYM, which was reflected into the offer he has presented. We are thankful to him. We are looking forward for a fruitful association

Just because he opted to take the Showtime deal doesn't mean he wasn't being offered a fair price to fight Kovalev. Seems like he just wanted more money for easier fights, which I guess is normal these days for boxing...
