Excessive clinching is equated to lack of inside skills. I'd rather tolerate running than excessive clinching. Lara, for example, is a runner, but he doesn't clinch. He'd rather do a rope a dope when he's cornered. Thurman runs occasionally, but like Lara, he rarely clinches, which makes the fight not so boring to watch.

Worst part is when running and clinching are mixed together it's a huge disaster for fans.

clinching isnt boxing, its not part of the game, its not a skill that should be praised, its cheating. its the refs responsibility to stop it, not the opponents. People saying 'oh the fighter should overcome it, its a veteran trick' what a load of ****, its a foul, maybe kovalev should smash ward round the face with an elbow in response and we'll call that a veteran trick. If ward clinches repeatedly in the fight imnot counting it as a win, simple as that

The Ref allowed ward to initiate 88 clinches in a fight without a point deducted, so should we support what Andre Ward did against Kessler?\

You people always say the Phrase "Clinching is part of the Game, if you don't like that then you don't know **** about boxing." So, should 88 excessive Clinches in one fight be respected?
        ^^^lol, look at this mofo

Saying boxers should just learn how to get out of a clinch is like saying boxers should learn more head movement to avoid headbutts.

Clinching, Flopping and throwing the ball out of bounds in football are all things people do to preserve themselves.

Take the Khan vs. Collazo fight for example. Every single time Collazo got in close Khan held him and pushed his head down, resulting in the referee calling break and Collazo getting no work done. It completely eliminated any inside fighting and strongly put the fight in Khan's favour because fighting from the outside was the only thing of any consequence.

Inside fighting is an equally important side of boxing and for it to be shutdown like that not only spoils the fight and makes it ugly to watch but is also grossly unfair to the fighter who is prevented from utilising it by continuous breaching of the rules (that typically goes unpunished).

There needs to be a stern warning, two separate point deductions and finally a disqualification. I absolutely would not be opposed to seeing a boxer get disqualified for repeated and excessive clinching during a bout. It's criminally overlooked and rarely receives anything more than a slap on the wrist, much to the detriment of certain boxers.
Not only that, but getting pulled down on your neck like that saps a lot of energy...or if a taller fighter pushes down on your back like klitschko did to povetkin. It's the body's natural reaction to resistant that by trying to pull your head up or stand up straight. Just like pushing someone down and making them get up drains a lot of energy in a long fight. Enforcing the rules makes for a more entertaining fight too...just look at the difference between wlad vs povetkin and wlad vs jennings in terms of watchability, and all the ref had to do is enforce the rules.

That was one of the biggest disgraces to the sport I've ever seen.

People that say things like this have never boxed a day in their lives. Controlling your opponent is one of THE KEYS to being a championship level fighter. Clinching is a part of the sport, and a tactic utilized by many champions to control their opponent and stifle their offense.

That 'fight' was a disgrace and Wlad should have been DQ'd, I lost my respect for him in that fight. And your point is? You thought I only like White and Asian fighters and don't give props to Black ones? Stop being ****** and get past that race card.
