clinching has been a part of boxing since its earliest days Ray Robinson used it, Willie Pepp (one of the best defensive fighters ever, if not the best) used it Nicolino Locche used it, Ali used it, Duran and the list goes on and on. there's a difference between clinching and straight up reaching out to grab ur opponents by both arms or wrapping ur arm around ur opponent head like Klitschko does for example, or holding behind the head and hitting or pushing down on ur opponent's head and so on, these are fouls, having ur hands tangled up with ur opponent isn't a foul and refs shouldn't step in so fast to seperate the fighters.
