Comments Thread For: Arum: De La Hoya is Like a Momma in How He Protects Canelo!

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has been on a roll all week, with his statements regarding the ongoing negotiations to make a fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs).

I think we tend to forget the tough fights he's been in at such a young age. But I think aside from the Mayweather fight, he was expected to win and even against Mayweather, nobody expected him to get seriously hurt. It would go to the cards. But with GGG, I think more people are picking GGG to beat Canelo and dominate him. I'm picking GGG to win, but at first I was picking him to dominate Canelo, but now I think it'll be closer now.

Coming from Arum this is hilarious we can go through the list of past and current fighters who Arum protected. Hell just last year he admitted that for all those years he protected Chavez jr and mocked haymon for putting him in a tough fight and losing. And look at the fights he's made for Manny lately Vargas, Bradley 3. Plus it's just ****** to say a fighter who is only 26 and already fought mayweather, cotto (who arum predicted just last year would beat canelo), trout, lara.

Meanwhile ramirez is virtually the same age as canelo and has yet to fight a single top fighter at 168 and is 6'3 with the size of a light heavy weight yet instead of moving up or trying to fight the best at 168 Arum signed him to fight a small bum worse then salka. Pot calling thr kettle black. Arum is just bitter because manny is old and just about done and he has no fighter in his stable that draws like canelo. He's been talking shyt about PBC, HBO, Golden Boy, UFC this old bastard always got something to cry about. The game is passing him by.

Arum had to go slow with Jr. the guy had no amateur experience whatsoever. But he brought him along the right way.

He had him face Zbik, who was a decent fighter, for the WBC title, then he put him against Rubio and then Andy Lee. Then when he thought he was ready he put him in with Sergio.

Canelo took some tough fights early on, but he's not following that path anymore. He's going backwards with his opponent selection. He was significant favorite against every fighter he faced after Lara.

He fought two punching bags (Kirkland and Angulo), a chinless wonder (Khan) who was moving up in weight, and then he got a money fight against Cotto, a fighter literally no one feared in MW and everyone wanted to fight. Canelo was lucky enough to get him to sign the contract. Then he fights Liam Smith who was a paper champion and a no hoper. Who's he going to fight next? Willie Monroe in May? This is not a great career trajectory. I think that this has a lot to do with Oscar. He knows they got dodged a bullet in the Lara fight. I thought he won the fight, many thought Lara should have gotten the decision. But Oscar saw enough in that fight that probably created some doubt, that's why he's put him in these easy fights.

Bob builds is his guys slow, but once they reach a peak he keeps them there.
