Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: Ward Fight Impossible - He Couldn't Make 168!

Gennady Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez, says a potential fight with Andre Ward would have never come off - because Ward would have never been capable of making the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

This is a bunch of horse **** because Triple G's people have said on RECORD that the fight with Ward has to be at a catchweight of 164 pounds! This is on record but at the same time, they tried to make the big money fight with Froch at 168. Just come out and say no, not interested. No need for excuses.

Honestly, this has turned into a bunch of "he say, she say" at this point. I can piece together faults on both sides as to why the fight didn't happen, but at the core, neither camp wanted the fight enough to make necessary concessions and that's alright. Both sides have moved on for the time being as far as future opponents are concerned. Now, both sides need to move on from all that back and forth and shut up. I wasn't even that amused by that fight anyway...

Andre Ward can't make that weight NOW, maybe. Since he has moved up to 175 in order to get a PPV opponent that will actually get in the ring with him.

But when Andre was at 168 this is what Team GGG was saying in reality:

Golovkin's Coach: Andre Ward Must Go to 164 or No Fight

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, has made it absolutely clear that he's not going to budge from his position that a potential fight with Andre Ward will only happen if Ward - the recognized champion at super middleweight - is wiling to meet them halfway at a catch-weight of 164-pounds. Golovkin and his team received more than their fair share of heat in recent days, after placing a catch-weight demand on a potential fight with Ward. The reason for the heat, is because Golovkin was willing to fight both Carl Froch and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the full super middleweight limit.

Ward wasn't at 168 in 2015 -- he was at 172, as we all know...

... and glad that you provided link to this article... because it clearly shows what was the "weight issue"... read carefully:

<< Ward returned last month after being away from the ring since November of 2013. He stopped Paul Smith in the ninth round of a fight which took place at 172-pounds. If Ward puts together a few good wins and gets the buzz going again, Golovkin's position on the weight might have some wiggle room.
"That's something that would be a discussion amongst the team. And if we all came to the consensus that it was the right thing to do, at that point, then yes [we'd consider budging on the weight]. But right now, as it stands, he has to come to 164 if he wants to fight Gennady," Sanchez said.>>

Whoever hasn't seen the video of Ward actually saying this & is talking out their ass.. Well there's a reason because you're too lazy to seek if this indeed was true, but you instead used this platform for your ignorance. Ward said it, it's hard to even get to 175 so 168 is out question he said. Look it up idiots, and the only reason Andre is fighting is because Dan Goosen passed, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about this man.

This guy is a walking contradiction. He says he can't see Ward coming back down, followed by he might move down if he loses to Kovalev.
