You could tell 15 seconds in that Smith stood no chance but he's giving a decent effort, add in a absolutely horrendous undercard and I'm glad that this PPV is the worst of Canelo career, I'm sure they made good $ but I doubt GB is pleased with the results of this

The f.ucked up part is I imagine that Canelos May opponet will be just as bad if not a worse name then Smith.
I agree. I just saw the fight as well. While Smith made a valiant effort you could see right away that this was truly a mismatch. Smith looked small next to Canelo. Again Canelo can't seem to keep a lid on it in the post fight interview. Oscar was in the background with a painted on grin much like that of those smoking hot ring girls. Canelo said again "I fear no one". Kellerman pressed him about GGG and he delivered the corporate answer about making Golovkin an offer etc etc.

Canelo is a great fighter and aside from Floyd, whose performance against him was stellar BTW, is probably unbeatable by anyone else in the WW division.

You sad fuucks are what make canelo just that much more popular than any of the chumps you guys nuthug.

Keep up the great work haters.
I hope you realize that Canelo increased GGG's star status when he vacated the belt to him. Now everyone wants to know who this guy was that scared Canelo into handing the belt over. And GGG gains more fans. Maybe it's your own hate which attracts GGG fans to hate on Canelo. That's a fine point to make.

But with that said that number still *****s all over GGG ***** ass weak 97k ppv.

Remember the only ***** here is goofy ass looking ggg who doesn't want to accept an offer thats more than hes ever made.

        GGG is proven ***** made.
In the same month, GGG earned 500k ppv buys in a UK-only ppv event. Which is bigger, 250k or 500k?

Way bigger star huh? Doubled GGG's numbers huh? 500k is still bigger than 250k. In essence, GGG doubled Canelo's numbers. Yet Canelo is still the bigger star?...how about this?...how desperate a move was that for DLH to make an outrageous offer to K2 for a fight that's a year away?

              1. Trend: Canelo's fights garnered 350k vs. Angulo, 300k vs Lara and ~460k Khan. I'm ignoring Cotto because that was 2 very well known names. The trend shows that Khan indeed had a lot of fans that supported him, and that the generic trend for Canelo shows that he's a ~300k PPV fighter. This is despite Floyd retiring and Pac no longer being a huge draw. For the cash cow of the sport, 300k is not that impressive.
              2. Financials: Canelo's purses today are MUCH higher than they were vs. Angulo (1.25m) and Lara (1.5m). I believe the total rumoured amount for Khan fight was $15M. He wont be able to support $15M purses with 300k PPV buys. Golden Boy may have broken even due to the ~40k live tickets they stole, but they can't put on a show in a stadium every time.

For example, Arum said that Pac-Bradley 3 did 400k-500k PPV buys and that was terrible, with the event losing money. That was because Pac was making between 20-25 mill with Bradley getting 6m.

As another example, Golovkin/Lemieux, which 'only' did 150K can now be put in perspective, since the purses for that fight were 2M for Golovkin and 1.5m for DL.

What this means is that Canelo is probably still the biggest star in boxing, but that statement means significantly less now than it did 3-5 years ago. If Floyd decided to come out of retirement and offer Canelo 80-20, Canelo's gonna shut up and take it.
Agree completely. I can always depend on your non-bias to set the casuals straight. I don't count the haters from either side. If prize fighting means 250k ppv buys, then prize fighting is dead. Of course, the week before GGG proved that prize fighting is still alive. DLH is all talk if he doesn't make this fight in Sept 2017.

I saw Stevens and Lemieux were planning to fight to see who gets the next Canelo fight. Sounds like a good idea
but I wouldn't want to see Canelo move to 160 and miss out on the 154 fights available unless there is a guarantee that GGG's team will actually sign on the dotted line.
It's more likely that Canelo doesn't want to put his body through having to make 154 again. No WADA testing & he had to strip naked just to make 154 right on the dot? Yeah, he probably doesn't want to fight at 154 anymore.

250k ppv buys for the biggest ppv draw in the sport is an absolute flop. If they wanted more, maybe not charging $70 for it would help.

Well, it wasn't. That's why Canelo's ppv was a flop.

Plus it was reported almost 20 million views in Mexico. Seems the Mexican fanbase hasn't abandoned him so much after all.
Put Canelo against Brook in the UK its sells much more, put GGG in cowboy stadium against Beefy and it bombs like his only other PPV fight.
It flopped because DLH & GBP were saying that Canelo's numbers would beat the Pac/Margarito numbers. From that standpoint it was a huge flop. Even if they weren't aiming to beat Pac's ppv in Cowboys Stadium, 250-300k buys is still a flop.
