Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: How is Canelo 160 Champ at De La Hoya's Ring?

Abel Sanchez, who trains WBA/WBC/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs), is in disbelief that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) is still recognized as the middleweight champion by Ring Magazine.

we got a conspiracy here. Maybe ring magazine is just slow on changing the rankings.

It's impossible to deny there is a conflict of interest between Ring mag and Canelo. They have him as Ring champ at 160 but now all it took was beating Liam Smith and they also have him ranked above Lara, the Charlos, Andrade, and JRoc at 154.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell Oscar, who owns Ring Magazine, is biased towards Canelo. What I want to know is who specifically at Ring Magazine is implementing these pro-Canelo rankings on Oscar's behalf? Did Oscar come in and specifically tell someone to do it, and they did it? Is there a wink-wink-nudge-nudge agreement going on? And with who specifically? Is it the editor of the magazine? Certain writers? That's the more interesting question. I know Doug Fischer is the editor at Ring but I always thought he was the professional, objective type. Maybe I was wrong or maybe it's someone else there?

Same way floyd was number 1 at 147 and 154 at the same time for 2 years. Because he is still lineal at 160 but has now won another title at 154 and has beaten 4 of the top 10 fighters at 154. So what's the problem?

Being ranked in 2 weight class at the same time isn't new. He beat lineal and number 1 ring 160 champ Cotto. He was number 1 154 before that as early as last nov. He just beat another top 10 and champ in smith so he retains his number 1 status at 154. Where is the controversy?

I guess GGG and his fans know nothing about this because he has never and will never move up to another weight class. Floyd and Pacman and many others have been ranked in 2 weight class at the same time.
