Canelo doesn't need him at all, he is a fighter with options. He will be fighting on Cinco de Drinko and Mexican Independence day weekends for the the next few years at least.
GGG fans think he is bringing all this money in and its not there. This fight is not being talked about outside of the hardcore. It will do just above the Cotto fight and doesn't warrant anything more than a token percentage (10% or less) plus a solid guarantee for GGG. Asking for anything else is clearly pricing themselves out of the fight. The second Canelo dropped the belt he took all of GGG's leverage away. A solid B side like GGG doesn't send counteroffers, they take what they are given or don't get the fight.
And on what planet are some of these GGG nuthuggers living on thinking GGG is where Mayweather was at before the ODL fight? Utter nonsense. Floyd was a solid PPV fighter that was ready to take the next steps to a superstar. Even then he made concessions to Oscar on money, weight, gloves. etc.. GGG is no where near where Floyd was in 2006-2007 and probably never will be with the current state of boxing.
You've typed a lot of nonsense.

Canelo certainly has youth on his side. But he hasn't got many great options open to him at this specific moment in time.

How can GG be pricing himself out? You don't even know what he wants yet?

You say Canelo took GG's leverage away by giving up his belt. In regards to the WBC's rules, yes. But if GG can add the WBO and the other WBA belt to his collection before they fight, then that gives him a lot of leverage.

Adding all those belts just means that GGG has to pay more sanctioning fee's each time he fights, they have done nothing for his marketability. The only leverage he had on Canelo was that he was his mandatory and could force a purse bid. Now he has no leverage.
But hey you do you. Continue to think that BBB side is a big star despite the numbers showing otherwise. Fact remains this fight doesn't happen unless its on Canelo's terms and a few more paper titles won't change that.

        2. Various reports say that the fight grossed around $500m. Manny didn't get $50m.

        3. Even if Manny had accepted the $40m flat fee, he'd still have needed to pay Roach and his training expenses etc. So he wouldn't have made around the same amount that he actually made last year.

        4. He's obviously not fighting Vargas because he needs the money.
        1. Mayweather-Pacquiao, the first time, was all but agreed to in early 2010 before Pacquiao started objecting to getting his blood drawn.

        2. PPV did $450m (cut that in half to get the number before the promoters take their share), live gate did $72m (half of which went to MGM Resorts, before any split among the camps), etc. People let the top line number delude them; $450m on PPV, $225m once the cable operators/distributors get their cut, $90m as Top Rank's share, with Top Rank and Pacquiao splitting that as they see fit.

        3. If Pacquiao took the flat fee (plus the likely TV rights to the PI/Asia, as I don't see Floyd bothering with that), he'd still pay everyone, but he'd also avoid losing so much of his purse on the advances for his fights. Pacquiao pays Arum, Koncz, Freddie, taxes and his camp expenses and deposit everything else into his account. That's $8m into Pacquiao's pocket.

Even if Pacquiao got $100m for the fight, between Arum's cut, Koncz' cut, Roach's cut, taxes and camp expenses. That's easily down to $20m, and that's before Arum gets his advance money back (financing 200 Filipinos traveling with him for his camp, attending the most expensive prizefight in the history of prizefighting, couldn't have come cheap). I doubt that Pacquiao even put $10m into his account once everything was paid back.

        4. What is the value in fighting Jessie Vargas, in a fight off of the Vegas strip, in a fight that is being carried without the weight of premium TV, were it not for the fact that he's picking up a $15m check for the fight?

Don't be fooled into thinking Canelo's not bothered about the belts.

His reputation has taken a huge hit and his countrymen are desperate to see him fight GG.

There's a good chance that GG can fight Jacobs and BJS while Canelo is on the sidelines recovering from injury.

If (I appreciate it's a big if at this stage) GG can add those belts, Oscar and Canelo would be under enormous pressure to take that fight. Because once he's left JMW for MW, who else could he fight at MW who his fans would be satisfied with?

If GG had all the belts and Canelo's options are limited, it gives K2 leverage.

Oscar has to reach a compromise. If he doesn't, Canelo will suffer for it more than GG.

            How does that make sense?

He obviously has to be given A percentage.

They can reach a compromise and have a fair split from the total revenue.
Because Golovkin's biggest fight to date, that his camp staged, was Golovkin-Lemieux and that fight likely did a third of the business that Alvarez-Smith will end up doing, which folks are openly mocking as a flop.

Alvarez-Khan, once all of the revenues are counted, likely did more than $50m in total revenue on that fight.

Golovkin-Lemieux may have done $10m in revenue.

A "fair split" on the fight is closer to 10% than folks want to acknowledge, and folks seem to have convinced themselves that, by some miracle, Golovkin's share should be significantly higher than that (while openly not giving any value to Golovkin refusing to give up a single pound at the scale to make the fight)

              1. Again, Floyd was never going to agree to fight Manny 5 years ago. You only have to look at how he carried himself throughout that period to realise that. Even when Manny agreed to everything, he made the BS flat fee offer, which told the whole boxing world that it was never cut off dates that had prevented an earlier fight from happening.

              2. Everything what you've wrote regarding the figures is all speculation on your part. The flat fee was a joke, and he'd still have had various cuts.

              3. He's fighting Vargas because he can still fight and he doesn't want to retire yet. If he was cashing out, they'd have picked a better opponent. It's silly for you to imply that he's doing it solely for the money. Is he broke? How much money has he made in his career?

None of the above relates to what I originally said to you.

Your statement that I questioned doesn't make sense.

Yes, GG's share should be higher because both guys need each other, and they'll be fighting for all of GG's belts. And if he can beat Jacobs and BJS, they'll be fighting for every belt next year.

A 90% split for Canelo would be a joke.

Why on earth should GG give up anything in weight?

virtually everybody "makes a counteroffer." it's called negotiation. you don't take one of the biggest draws in boxing and take no money, 154.1 lbs, a bullring in mexico with canelo's aunts judging, etc.

golovkin's one of the biggest draws in boxing right now. this is the biggest fight in boxing.
