I had a coach teach me the bent version and it left me in pain until I had other coaches correct me, showing me the safer and more powerful way to throw.

Ergonomically, what sense does it make to throw your whole body into a power shot, but compromise the weakest joint in the series? There's a reason most of the world, including elite athletes, and even the video you posted (!) don't do that.

As far as tight hooks vs lose, absolutely it's good to keep them tight WHEN YOU CAN. Fact is that actual boxing is not an ideal scenario and your opponent will fk up all your plans for swinging perfect punches. You can't always wait for them to be in the perfect spot or put yourself there. You sometimes need to shoot when the opportunity presented itself.

You bringing up Danny Garcia actually defeats your own argument. He hammered the flat footed version of Morales with a short left hook. Less challenging opponents allow good form to come easier. Not that I approve of Danny's tendency toward windmill hooks. He's fking awful about that. But, it's clear that it's not what he sets out to do. He ends up that way when he gets sloppy or takes risks, which is often.
It's something really new to me. It's not just my coach, I heard a couple of others as well saying the same thing. Also friend who's a kick-boxer told me in one conversation that his coach tought him the same. I read here that PivotandRoll heard the same. Anyways you may be right man, but let's agree that we disagree. It looks like it works to you, just like a slightly bent wrist works for me.

Speaking of hooks, yes we got off topic with them, but yeah actual boxing would not ever be an ideal scenario, I'm fully conscious of it. In almost every fight we watch, we could find something that could be fixed and perfected, but don't you think that boxers and their coaches aren't doing just that after watching their fights on tape? Their coaches would probably tell them "keep your hooks compact, don't overreach or swing wildly like you did here"... If anyone, coaches should be the ones who strive for perfection. Some of them could chose not to give a lot of importance to small mistakes, but we also have Cus, Nacho and many others who are known for driving fighters crazy, asking them to execute every move perfectly. They said about Nacho how he would keep a fighter throw just a jab for 10 or however rounds until it's perfect. Of course Danny can throw a short hook, thank god he can. I'm not saying that every single hook that he throws is a wild swing, it simply came to my attention that I see him do it very often, in every single fight, so I chose to mention him as the best example.

Yea, I think we generally agree on the topic, but have differing opinions of the angle of the wrist. I'm totally cool to agree to disagree. I'm ok with people not seeing things the way I do and I'm not one of these blowhards that has to convince everyone my opinion is the only one.

Combat for sport is such an unusual and diverse art. Beyond all-else, what really matters is what works for the individual.
