Canelo's Resume Is Not Impressive - Let's Be Honest
Collapse

People say Canelo is so young, he is not really young in boxing ages, he started fighting int he pros at age 15 and almost has 50 professional fights.
50 fights and that kind of resume is not bad, but calling himself the best fighter in the world? Come on bruh. You dropped your belt and you are terrified of a man your own size. You are clearly not the best, otherwise you would prove it.Comment

There's no such thing as a base prime in boxing. Hamed at 25 was considered past prime while Hopkins didn't hit his stride until 33.It's not the record of an ATG but the guy is just coming into his prime and has a lot ahead.
Mosley was a decent test for a kid who was 22 (?) and unproven at the time.
Smith, Khan, Kirkland, etc are on-par with anyone ggg has fought.
Trout had just clowned Cotto at the time.
Cotto was having a surprisingly good career revival.
Lara is a DAMN good win and the fact he even took that fight when it offered nothing but street cred is a testament to his heart.
I'm not even a Canelo fan but the hate is very transparent. If you're on a mission to point out weak resumes, I can think of a few....
Remember Victor Ortiz, he was done by 26. Benitez at 25 who is a superior talent to Canelo. You make the best fights when the best fights come up. Resting on names like Lara and Trout are unacceptable. Those where B Level fighters at best, time to face a top guy. I heard there was a middleweight with a perfect record calling his name I think it's time for the kid to step up again.Comment

Everything you are saying is what's wrong with boxing. I guarantee you if Canelo and GoldenBoy knew what they know now they would have never left Showtime and signed with HBO. Doing that in itself has made Golovkin a perfectly viable opponent. Also, Canelo can't be acting all modest and I'm just a greenhorn attitude. He is billed and sold as the next best thing and the face of boxing. Canelo is in his prime while Golovkin is teetering on old age and the twilight years of his career. Leonard didn't win the 160 lineal and then immediately vacate. Neither was he a natural 160lber. Canelo clearly has trouble making 154 and rehydrates more than Golovkin. This is just the prefaces of this whole sham. Stardom isn't easy especially when you mix it with professional sports. You have to defend your placement in sports especially boxing. Time is ticking though. Canelo isn't doing his family name and legacy any favorsYeah but some act like it is Canelo who is well into his 30's and need to make all the fights you want him to make within the next year and that is not the case. If anything stepping in with the best at a young age gives him a pass for me because I KNOW he is not afraid to fight the best and his track record proven that but some want to throw that out of the door because you want him to make the GGG fight and I understand that as well but regardless, his resume speaks for itself.
I think he will give us the fights we want eventually just on their own terms and that is what boxing is and always will be. Hagler had to literally WAIT for Leonard with his Detached Retina injury then when Leonard did finally agree to fight he had a TON OF DEMANDS, you wanna know what Hagler did? AGREED TO THEM ALL just to get Leonard in the ring!
Mayweather did not invent A-Side Boxers being Male Divas, they always been that way when they was the #1 Generator in the sport. You accept everything they want or you get passed on and they go fight someone else because remember, A-SIDE DON'T NEED ANYBODY they can generate on their own. They can fight YOU OR ME and generate money lolComment

Exactly a GGG fanboy trying to discredit Canelo resume is like a Crack head trying to tell you that you need to get your life together. There is no grading system where GGG who is much older has a better resume then canelo who has LITERALLY fought more then double the world champs, hall of famers, top 10 p4p ranked fighters and names we all know. There is a reason canelo opponents have gone on and achieved more in their careers then GGGs. Because they are better fighters. There is many things you can debate comparing these two the quality of their opponents is not one of them. You will only make a fool of yourself by bringing up resumes GGG fanboys. It's not the record of an ATG but the guy is just coming into his prime and has a lot ahead.

You're seriously confused...There's no such thing as a base prime in boxing. Hamed at 25 was considered past prime while Hopkins didn't hit his stride until 33.

When the have I ever said anything about a base prime?? I've always explained to people around here how that doesn't exist.
If you followed Canelo's career and know a little about the sport, it becomes obvious that he's coming into his prime. His skills (particularly defense and ring IQ) are higher than they've ever been. The only way I'm wrong is if I'm vastly underrating him and he's not even near prime (which is highly doubtful).Comment

No everything I'm saying is how boxing always worked, just wasn't any social media and boxing forums for fans to vent their frustrations about waiting for Leonard vs Hagler or Hearns vs Hagler all those fights took time to make! Hearns vs Hagler was suppose to happen in 1982 but was canceled due to Hearns injury. That fight would not happen until 1985! Was it worth the wait Absolutely! So I'm just saying I think fans are a bit entitled, especially Internet fans whom many I'm willing to bet don't buy any PPV's not even for the big fights that are worthy of buying but yet spend hours on here complaining about EVERYTHING!Everything you are saying is what's wrong with boxing. I guarantee you if Canelo and GoldenBoy knew what they know now they would have never left Showtime and signed with HBO. Doing that in itself has made Golovkin a perfectly viable opponent.
