Canelo's Resume Is Not Impressive - Let's Be Honest

Shane Mosley: A washed-up WW far beyond his best years. Canelo couldn't even knock him out.

Austin Trout: A solid fighter (not elite) who gave Canelo hell. Could even argue that Trout won this fight, it was very close.

Floyd Mayweather: Best opponent on his list, but doesn't really count as Canelo got schooled and barely did anything in the fight.

Alfredo Angulo: Hand-picked to make Canelo look good in his comeback fight. Angulo was not even a contender.

James Kirkland: Same case as Angulo. Picked a fighter who is tailor-made for Canelo. Kirkland had power, no skills, not an elite fighter.

Erislandy Lara: Great fighter, who made Canelo look silly. Many (inlcuding myself) believe Lara won this fight.

Miguel Cotto: Way past his prime. A blown-up WW & could not even get a KO.

Amir Khan - A chinny WW with no chin and no power. Not even an elite fighter.

    Liam Smith - Who?????

As you can see, the legitimate names on his resume are Trout, Lara and Floyd. Everyone else is either a no-name, undersized or way past their primes.

For 26 years old, it is very impressive. Even without age it's still good resume.

You missed Lara off, although he arguably lost that fight.

Totally disagree and the reason is because of his AGE. Canelo already build up a excellent resume and he is really just hitting his PRIME as a Top level fighter while others are well into their 30's and don't have Resume that could get them a Job at Denny's and Denny's literally hires anybody lol

Not taking sides toward anybody but I can't have respect for multiple fighters without need to tear one of them down to prove a POINT or to show a Boxing Forum full of faceless people that you're truly a fan of someone

Not many currently can argue that have a better Resume than Canelo besides maybe Andre Ward, Danny Garcia and Timothy Bradley

GGG's resume may not be too impressive but at least he has fought people his size (mostly) and in their primes. Martin Murray, Macklin, Rosado, Geale, Rubio, Monro Jr. Lemiuex, Proksa, Stevens and Kell Brook. Not only did he beat them but he demolished them with ease and never looked hurt or struggled. People seem to forget that while he has not beat any one truly elite, he has faced some solid opposition and the way he has beaten them is extremely impressive.

His resume is pretty damn good but his three last fights ******.

Kirkland-Chinny, long lay off, bordering shot. Although to be fair, this fight was supposed to happen years ago but Kirkland declined because of money.

Khan- Two weight classes below and chinny as hell. Arguably one of the weakest chins in boxing. Horrible, horrible fight.

Smith- Who the hell knows where they found him...

That's the thing though. Yes he's in a great place at his young age to land multi-million dollar fights. But he can't just reverse his career trajectory like Danny and fight no hopers. If he is what he is being sold as. An all time great trying to prove excellence in all places....then he needs to be looking forward/raising the bar. Not making it look like his team is panicking and buying time to temporarily avoid Golovkin.

For being as young as he is its really good. Not many fighters would have taken the Trout fight when he did. His own promoter didn't want him to take the fight because it could have jeopardized the Mayweather fight later that year. Floyd wanted him to stay on his undercard a to help his PPV buys but Canelo refused and did his own show at the Alomodome to prove he was a big draw on his own. Most fighters would have taken an easier fight to stay busy. Trout was coming off getting a decision against Cotto in NYC and many felt he would be too much for Canelo at the time.

This Right here. Canelo's resume even for people who think he lost to Lara the resume can't be hated on because he is young and when compared to a lot of other fighters who have been cradled, built and coddled to death all the way up never taking risks there's no comparison Canelo has taken the fights he "shouldn't" have . But sure I agree the last 3 oppenents are meh, oh and Khan was straight up bull****.
