Hopkins explained it and made it very simple yesterday in the press conference. Said no matter how you spin it canelo is not a middleweight and has never fought a middleweight. He has fought super welterweights at or 1lb over in a catchweight. That is the weight his body is comfortable with154/155. Never fought at 160. GGG is comfortable at 160 and is a full blown career middleweight. Canelo is not going to put himself at a disadvantage fighting at a weight he's never fought at before. You either wait till he is comfortable at that weight or if you want to fight now BOTH guys have to be at a disadvantage not just Canelo. If you don't have that then you don't have a fight.

Canelo is saying the same thing Hopkins said. I'll beat him but nobody is forcing me into that fight until I am comfortable with the weight. Which by the way is exactly what GGG tells guys at 168.

"I will fight GGG and I will beat GGG, but I will not be forced into the ring," Alvarez said then. "I am hopeful that by putting aside this ticking clock, the two teams can now negotiate this fight and GGG and I can get in the ring as soon as possible and give the fans the fight they want."

Meanwhile, Canelo holds The Ring 160 belt and hge is the "historic lineal champ" at 160...

'... to claim the minor WBO belt' - what is that supposed to mean? Been quite a few decades since the WBO was last seen as a minor trinket and all the recent greats have held a version of it since. Pretty ripe choice of words there by the author considering the writeup is concerning Canelo fighting for Smiths WBO belt. Almost suggesting it's ok for ginger to fight for it but not GGG. Another pass for the Mexican who doesn't **** around...

Exactly, everyone knows the way to become comfortable at a higher weight is to move to a lower weight. Makes perfect sense. GTFOOH
