The 'great' Benard Hopkins who's middleweight defences consisted of very average opponents and smaller men moving up. He avoided the stacked 168 division completely and moved to his natural weight at 175 which was a poor division at the time.He is only regarded as great by the delusional American media for his piss poor 160 record and for still been active at 50.
He is trying to protect the cash cow Canelo and his own place in history.

Also, Bernard is 6'1, with a 75" reach, whereas GG is 5'10, with a 70" reach. So he's asking GG to do something that he didn't do himself in his own time.
